Xbox 360 has by far the worst track record
No Fuss Reviews has revealed its findings from a survey conducted over the past few months. Using a dedicated search engine which brought over 500,000 users to the survey page, they were able to gather findings which reflect an unusually large user base.

To prevent duplicate applicants, the survey made use of email addresses and session timers.

The survey revealed the following:

First time console failure rates

42% of Xbox 360 owners have had a console replaced or repaired due to fault.

8% of PS3 owners have had a console replaced or repaired due to fault.

Less than 1% of Wii owners have had a console replaced or repaired due to fault.

Second time console failure rates

Of those who have had to have their first console replaced or repaired:

55% of Xbox 360 owners had to have their second console repaired or replaced.

12% of PS3 owners had to have their second console repaired or replaced.

0% of Wii owners had to have their second console repaired or replaced.

Third time console failure rates

Of those who have had to replace or repair 2 consoles:

39% of Xbox 360 owners had to have their console replaced or repaired a third time.

8% of PS3 owners had to have their console replaced or repaired a third time.

Fourth time console failure rates

Of those who have had to replace or repair 3 consoles:

12% of Xbox 360 owners had to have their console replaced or repaired a fourth time.

2% of PS3 owners had to have their console replaced or repaired a fourth time.

Fifth time console failure rates

Of those who have had to replace or repair 4 consoles:

6% of Xbox 360 owners had to have their console replaced or repaired a fifth time.

1% of PS3 owners had to have their console replaced or repaired a fifth time.

Sixth time console failure rates

Of those who have had to replace or repair 5 consoles:

3% of Xbox 360 owners had to have their console replaced or repaired a sixth time.

1% of PS3 owners had to have their console replaced or repaired a sixth time.

0% of Wii owners had to have their console replaced or repaired a sixth time.

As expected, the Xbox 360 came in as the most unreliable console. Fortunately recent hardware revisions have made current Xbox 360 consoles far more reliable than earlier generations.

Oh, when I still owned an xbox I made it up to 5 repairs/swops....Micro$haft will not see a cent of mine again....happy ps3 owner now...

You guys must also remember that the x360 launched a full 2 years before the Ps3 launched.
So obviously there will be a massive difference between the 2. No doubt the rrod of the past was insane but my machine lasted almost 4 years before the rrod issue and I played the shit out of that puppy.

Redo these "stats in 2 years time and then see how many Ps3 failures there have been...Think that'll be a fair comparison.

Also please remember that microsoft admitted to cocking up and they gave each and every owner a 3 year warranty which is epic.

My 1 mate recently got a rrod on his almost 3 year old Elite, took it to the shop got it swapped no questions asked.

You try do that with your Ps3...lol.

Technically the release window was just under 1 year. The 360 was released on 22/11/2005 and the PS3 was released on 17/11/2006 (11/11/2006 in Japan).

Just for context, I'm on my 5th 360. My intial purchase was made in June 2006. In a period of 3 years, I've had to go through the entire swapout process 4 times.

My PS3 is about 18 months old at this point. Haven't had any trouble or signs of trouble.

Whilst this is a very interesting statistic, it is, merely just putting a number to what everyone knows. Everyone knows that the Xbox has/had a massive failure rate.

Excluding the Xbox, I find it a little hard to believe that people have had more than one failure simply due to mechanical error. I'm pretty sure that people who have had their 2nd or more console swopped, it is quite likely they had a hand in it's demise, RROD not counting. Okes that fiddle with the units, trying to mod or tweak something here and there and end up damaging the unit, then claiming it under warranty. And yes, some slip through without anyone detecting the user damage.

As for the Wii, it is either very impressive figures, or simply doesn't get used as much. Then again, I would imagine it is mostly kids that use the Wii, in which case those are impressive figures, as kids can be hard on tech.

Over though, it is interesting to see the figures in this way, but no great shock though.

I would like to see these stats compared to say old consoles. Just for some scope on whether or not stats like these are standard, or are things just being made more shoddily as the years go on.

I would like to see the figures of people who had to replace their TV's due to the WII :p
How many WII remote have gone through brand new 40'' flat screens? Hehe

Good point. I've had the same PS2 for nearly 10 years now (and thousands of hours of gameplay) and all that's wrong with it is a squeaky disc tray. I'd like to see either the PS3 or Xbox360 compete with that.

Harsh words coming from a retard. Only bored kids still whine about how many Xboxes and Playstations break.

Guess I'm a bored kid then...well, "kid"...and...no-one's whining...saw the article and thought to post it for interest's sake...use it, dont use it...whatever...

Those stats won't mean much thanks to lead-free solder used in today's manufacturing processes for electronic goods. The whole RRoD and YLOD thing can be pointed towards lead-free solder.

And thankfully the xbox isn't that expensive to purchase a new one once the warranty is up.
