Consoles moving to x86 benefits MyGaming readers

I know its a long shot, but i hope that this makes games a little cheaper in the future. What im really hoping for are a few more ports coming from Sony's side, id live the chance to play some God of War or Killzone or The Last of Us on my pc... Sony have so many cool exclusives
 
Hold on a second, x64 is just a x86 extension for 64 bit processors, and since x86 doesn't limit the access of physical address space wi9th PAE it's wrong to call it x64 ( did you say it because of the amount of ram? ) if they said its x86

Depends on which company you listen to. Its usually either:
x64
x86-64
AMD64
x86_64
...ultimately its all one and the same thing.

Technically it does still utilize the x86 instruction set (with the x64 extension as you say) but in practice nobody refer to x64 systems as being x86 systems - it just causes unnecessary confusion. Also, no PAE involved.

No it just didn't make sense strategically so I googled the chip.

Oh was thinking about 32 bit when I said PAE...Looked at more comments on other sites it seems like the Sony officials are confused about the stuff themselves... from what they said it could even be 32 bit with PAE?

PAE is largely outdated tech so I doubt it. Its a x64 chip - so there is no real reason to run anything other than a x64 OS.

The PS4 will have a local hard disk drive, 8GB of main memory (RAM) that is the ultra-fast GDDR5, an enhanced PC GPU, and an AMD 64-bit x86 processor. Sony’s Mark Cerny called it a “custom processor,” which means that AMD’s 8 cores have been combined in a unique way.

I'd love for that to happen as well, but Sony's lost some amazing exclusive opportunities in the past. Assassin's Creed is the one that hurts the most - for months after the reveal it was a PS3 exclusive and then Microsoft decided they wanted a piece of the pie as well. Others like Final Fantasy, Ridge Racer and Tekken aren't as bad, but developers have to go to other platforms if they want to scale up production and earn more money.

Keeping the core attractions - God of War, Gran Turismo, Uncharted, recent Quantic Dream games, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid, Killzone and Resistance - on the platform is fine with me, but other Sony games could really appear on the PC to bring in extra revenue.

If you could download and play games from the PSN, that'd be awesome. But that would also take away sales, particularly for the consoles and the Vita. I'm hoping to get the PS4, the Vita and a Sony Xperia phone in the near future and tie them all with the PSN account - eat dirt, Apple.

Yup, it was always going to be x86-64 from the start. AMD's Bobcat is 64-bit capable and Jaguar expands on that.

The PS3's Cell did have 64-bit extensions enabled, but I'm not sure why the hell they limited both consoles to such pitiful amounts of memory. I'm sure the engineers had good reasons back then and no-one could anticipate how quickly 1080p took over, but it was certainly a slight lack of foresight. That said, everything's turned out pretty damn well.
