Constant 'net connection for AC2 on PC

Hopefully they're not completely twits and will at least have some sort of mechanism built-in to allow for a dropped connection. They should think about giving people the opportunity to at least restore the connection without ending their gaming session completely.

Look. UBISOFT is making a very big mistake. I'm not backing up their decision at all. I really think they're doing themselves a lot of harm with this. I can only hope that it causes them so much harm that other people/developers DON'T do this with future games.

This won't really affect me since I have a permanent connection but I do feel its a bit draconian.

The problem (for some of us at least) is not the always-on internet connection. The issue comes in that when/if that connection drops for what ever reason, even let's say their server gets congested and drops connections, YOU will not be able to play the game YOU paid for.

This is one step closer to complete digital distribution. It's making less and less sense to have a physical DVD in your drive. VERY soon you'll only be able to buy games ONLINE and you'll have to be ONLINE to play them. It is at that stage that I will STOP playing games because then they'll know what you're buying, what you're doing and when you're doing it as well.

It is a complete sense of authority that developers are trying to obtain. It's no longer about supplying the customers, the gamers, with proper software that provides them with money. They now want to have complete control over the customers, because then, you can make them do whatever they want.

At least that's what they're thinking.

Well instead of encouraging one to buy the game this is just going to push more people to pirate it. I mean seriously you need a 24/7 connection or too bad for you? So as a dialup user they are telling me not to buy the game... Okay, I wont, and even when the adsl line kicks in next month I not going to bother. Bad move Ubisoft, I love your games but I still feel the sting from the slap to my face.

I don't get it.
Why can't you just buy a game, validate it online and play in peace offline. If you want to save your single player game on a server somewhere, then you should be given the option. This is like Big Brother looking over your shoulder all the time, trying to catch you doing something wrong while you are trying to relax. Playing games is becoming a chore when it should be fun!!!

*shrug*

I'm happy to buy the game, but I'll crack it as soon as I do. Not going to waste my b/w on this DRM crap.

Welp, guess it's YET another company going in my torrent list. Now Microsoft better not fuck up or I'll be having alot more spare change in my pockets.

Once the Ubisoft's hand print disappears from my face I might reconsider and do the same thing.

Edit: It's still a silly system and makes the prospect of purchasing Ubisoft games much less appealing. Perhaps they are looking for an excuse to get out of the PC gaming industry? I mean this will undoubtedly lead to much poorer game sales and far more rampant piracy of their games. All they are doing is inconveniencing the legitimate customers.

No one is this stupid, they probably just using it to get some publicity than change it at the last moment to get praise that they "listened to the community".

this seems to be the most likely scenario .
As a PC gamer I am gamer I am getting tired of getting the short end of the stick .

I think its time I get that PS3 and pay R800.00 rands for my games + R??? for DLC

I find it funny.

games that use good old disc in drive get pirated less than games with overly restrictive drm

Idiots, seems in the gaming industry they don't learn from other mistakes, oh well I can add it to the other game I pirated that tried to give me the short end of the stick, MW2

Ja right... Like Activision did?

Where do you see games for R800? Most new releases are less than R600.

Also take into account that games can be traded for free or next to nothing, and a second-hand title barely a month old can be bought for less than the price of a PC game.

Right you are. The original main reason I never bought a console was for the game prices - but these days, you can get PS3 and XBOX games at excellent prices - R299 - R350. And with a constant flow of specials (online in particular) you can't really go wrong.

How does that have anything to do with a required Internet connection for Assassin's Creed 2?

Tryin to prove a point about piracy who someone here tried to tell us all AC2 with its constant net connection will decrease piracy which it wont.

Piracy = no hassles: Download, crack, play.

Non-piracy = Hassles: Buy game, install third party proggies, update third party proggies, run third party proggies while playing the game, hope your internet doesn't bail or third party proggies give you sh!t, play.

Not that I have any issues with this. I will buy Splinter Cell and I will play it. With all the DRM. And I'll enjoy it. Obviously if their server crashes or my internet bails it'll be irritating, but I'm going to rip my clothes to shreds and go sit on a rubbish dump lamenting what could have been.

People complain too much as it is.

Well I'm not gonna complain anymore. I'm just gonna have alot more cash from now on.

So far the only games that I'm still gonna buy are SC2, AvP and HL3. There the last of the games still worth paying for and there all on thin ice aswell.
