Continued Xbox 360 game releases

Well, the industry has grown massively since the days of transition to Xbox 360 and PS3.

There is a huge install base for current-gen consoles and it would be foolish to simply abandon that in favour of next-gen which still has a launch uptake cycle to get through.

We are already seeing that next-gen console launch window games are hitting current-gen as well. I'm willing to speculate that this sort of trend could continue for up to two years.

We'll eventually see a drop off in cross generation releases as the new generation cements itself. It all depends on consumer uptake numbers really.

Obviously, game development will also drive this, as the kind of games crafted for next-gen consoles may simply not scale down to the old-generation.

Beyond that, we will definitely see the stalwart platform drivers appearing on next-gen and current gen consoles well into next-gen lifespan. This is evidenced by FIFA, NFS, COD, and some other titles still getting PS2 versions even now.
 
Actually a good question. For a console with millions of users, it will be stupid for MS to drop support just like that. Look at the PS2, the last game was only released like a few months ago, nearly at the end of it's successor. I don't for a second think that the Xbox will receive such support post mortem, but you will still see Xbox games well into a few years after the launch of the Xbox One.

fifa 14 is actually also getting a ps2 release september this year
 
Wow really! I thought since well production of the best selling console, ps 2, has been canned i thought that game production will be canned too, to my suprise FIFA14 will be hitting the shelves when its released

It shows you what commercial success the PS2 was, and that even in the after life Sony has made money off it. I'm sure that even Microsoft can't be that dense to ignore that and just drop the 360 after like a year. So support should be there for the time being.

they kinda learned that when they discontinued Xbox one :rolleyes: (I mean Xbox Classic) support in late 2005.
 
A little off-topic, but when the PS3 was released, games were still being developed and released for the PS2 -- So... I don't see why they should have to stop making games for the new consoles. If a dev is up to the task; it should be done... right?
