Cool New Steam Feature

Morning all,

So when the latest Steam update came out I saw they have added support to choose where you want to install your games now. If you're like me and have a Steam folder on your SSD with maybe 1 or 2 games and then a 2nd Steam folder on a normal HDD with the rest of your games, this is quite a nifty lil' feature!

Just doing some Googling around this morning I found this other lil' feature that Steam has had for a while now it seems so I thought I'd share it here in case some people haven't seen it :)

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/201...-built-way-to-choose-steam-install-locations/

The just of it is that you can add different Steam install folders and it'll then pick up those games in that other folder. So even though that article was posted in September, if you haven't seen it then there you go :D

So can this be used to merge installed games into one Steam library? I've got two Steam installs on different HDDs, but would prefer to only have to launch one, as I can't always remember which games are installed on which one.

Pretty much :) But as far as I can see, it only works with games that have moved to that new content format (or whatever it was called). So I've done it on mine now and I can see a lot more of my games on my SSD install but then it didn't seem to add my older games like HL2.

The information in that article is old now. Those features have been built into the release client, along with Big Picture Mode.

To add new install folders goto Steam -> Settings -> Downloads + Cloud -> Steam Library Folders (Bottom of page). Add folders you want to include, then when you are installing a game you will see an option box appear where you can select a destination. Only works with compatible games.

Thanks :) I knew the article was old, but couldn't find it in Steam itself while I was looking around this morning.

I read somewhere about this new content format... this being one of the advantages, but only noticed the option to actually install a game to a different location just now.
I wonder if moving a game from my primary steam folder to another SteamLibrary folder will keep the game working as-is. My primary Steam drive is getting fuller.

This isn't exactly on topic but.... Every day I switch my pc on steam updates... How can they release a new version every single day? Any one else have this problem?

Steam updates or your games?

Are you signed into the beta by any chance?

This feature was hidden in the beta somewhere, although it wasn't straight forward.

Same thing happening to me. It's pretty annoying as it usually takes 10 to 20 minutes to finish updating.

Not subscribed to the beta, so it can't be that on my side.

My PC is on all day so I never really notice any updates. probably does it while I'm at work

Saw this yesterday too! Awesome feature.

Now if only they introduce a "move game to another Steam folder" option... because this stopping steam, moving to new location, reinstalling thing does not always work for me....

I remember when I first got my SSD I saw some programs that could move your steam game folders from 1 install to another but I agree, that would be a cool feature if it was properly integrated into Steam itself.

Really?? Every single day? Fsuk me.... And I can't play tf2 without it :/

My Steam doesn't update everyday so I'm gonna say it's probably the Beta part as well :)

But I'm not on the beta and mine does update every day. In fact, I'm waiting for it to finish updating right now.
