Apocalypse from the Greek ἀποκάλυψις apokálypsis; "lifting of the veil" or "revelation".
So if anything actually happens it will be less "End of Days" and more "Dawning of a New Age".

So glad someone else realizes this, and does not do the "OMFG WE ALL GONNA DIE" crazy shit.
On 21-12-2012, our alien creators are coming back to earth to explain to us that they in fact added some trickery into our DNA ages ago to evolve us faster than the other animals, and introduced a new gene(FoxP2) which means we could develop speech (as this is not present in any other lifeform on earth).
Wonder what all the religious folk would do when this happens?

I actually learned a really fun fact: Back in the nineteen hundreds when Darwin first published his theory of Evolution it was widely accepted by the Church of England at that time, this was due to most of the church had accepted the fact that the Bible is not to be taken literally... so why is it that now, 200 years later, that the topic of Evolution is bound to get you stoned if you dare mention it in close proximity to anyone who is religious?
I actually prescribe to "Ancient Astronaut" theory (think BattleStar Galactica) there is now proof that Homo-Sapiens (modern man) live along side Homo-Neanderthal as well as Denisova hominin for going on 10 thousand years and there is even evidence of cross breeding between the two. However to date we are still looking for the "missing link" between homo-sapiens and our other hominin cousins. Where did homo-sapiens come from then? Why where there civilizations, Ancient Chinese, Ancient Egyptians, Mesopotamians, Aztec, Atlantis... all these civilizations where centuries ahead of their time, some of their architectural achievements can barely be matched by modern machinery or methods. There was this Mediterranean city buried during a volcanic eruption which they found had indoor plumbing, flushable toilets and hot & cold running water almost a 1000 years ago, thats about the same time our African cousins where still bashing each others brains in with bone clubs or rocks.
