Cricket Thread - not the bugs but the buggers playing it :)

Well taking track record, current for and the fact that we just can't seem to win any ODI's on the sub continent, I'm a bit negative about our chances. But I really hope I'm wrong...

The Proteas take on Sri Lanka in the 5th and final ODI today. SL won the toss and will bat first. SA - Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, JP Duminy, AB de Villiers (capt), Faf du Plessis, David Miller, Farhaan Behardien, Ryan McLaren, Aaron Phangiso, Morne Morkel, Lonwabo Tsotsobe.

Things looking really good for SA as we slump to 91/6 after 22 overs. Needing a further 217 runs in 28 overs.
Looks like the 4 - 1 prediction is right

Regretfully you were on the money. Still cannot believe how pathetically we folded...again

I watched the highlights and we started off well with Quinton and Hash looking good. As soon as spin was introduced we frankly looked clueless. Where in the world do you play back on your stumps to spin? Faf threw his wicket away and Bahardien looks purely like a T20 specialist. A lot of hard work lies ahead!

I saw on facebook this morning how badly we were doing :( Then again I did not expect much

I followed the game, but only the scores on my phone every so often. I post this on MyBB just before they put foot down and pushed on toward their ultimately match winning total:

Looking at the match situation, I get a horrible feeling that the Sri Lankans are just toying with us.

So pleased that I did not make any special effort to follow this game.

So epically disappointed that this is the way I feel right now.

We seem to be on a downhill slide, so agree that plenty of hard work is required to turn this sort of trend around.

Well on a positive note SA A are doing really well. I think Elgar should play in the tests over DuPlessis. Elgar doing really well.

Well, Simon, you called the 4-1 scoreline so I guess congrats although I would have preferred coming here to gloat about a 3-2 win.

I agree with getting Elgar into the test side, but I'm not sure who to drop. Faf has done OK in tests, so I'm not convinced we should let him go just yet.
I'm also looking forward to seeing Henry Davids in the T20s. He's not shined on every occasion, but he's looked good even in the two games he failed. If he does well in SL, I think he should be given a chance in ODIs as well. It's not like we have anything to lose.

Well either Du Plessis or Pietersen, I think Faf is going through a real rough patch of form.

I wonder what would happen if SA batsmen had an open day inviting random people to come bowl at them. Each person pays like R5 per delivery, money gets sponsored to some charity but also gives the batsmen a whole host of practice against really unpredictable bowling.

Dunno. If they do that right after a performance like they pulled in SL, they can expect a lot of beamers.

I've been proven wrong many times lately so I hope this is again the case, but this is how I see it:

The shorter the format of the game, the worse SA performs. Before this tour, I had some hope that we may pull of a 3-2 win in the ODIs but I didn't give them a chance in the T20s. We may win one because it is the most unpredictable form of cricket but it is not the "toss-a-coin" unpredictable some people think. So we will again be beaten good and proper. 2-1 to SL.

I say give the guy on the right a chance in the middle order. How bad can he be?

Yeah I also think a 2 - 1 to Sri Lanka, I think for us it will be L W L.

Well if he can hit the ball like he did in Happy Gilmore then yes by all means bring him on :)

There's nothing worse than looking forward to a series and not wanting to watch all at the same time. Grim. If we get one win, right now I'll be ecstatic.

I think 50 milion people share the same thought.

Saw it on the news tonight. First said that South Africa 115/6 in their 20 overs and thought oh hell no we lost again then they said that Sri Lanka only got 103 in their 20 overs and was very happy. Well done SA

Like you I am ecstatic, good fight from the boys after the whipping they took in the ODIs. For a change Wayne Parnell bowled the game changing 2nd last over - a 2 wicket maiden.

I sense we need a couple of players to consistently bat/bowl well. At the moment everyone's form seems erratic.

Some reporter on 702 made a good point that perhaps there is to much cricket being played and as a result folks are finding it difficult to get excited about cricket. Having a winning team also helps to build support methinks;)
