Crime in SA getting out of hand

Is it me or is crime in SA getting a little out of hand, I know its always been bad its just that it seems to be getting worse by the day. I am very proud of being a south african, but its hard to stay positive when crime is increasingly getting closer to home.:(

Crime, Lack of decent education system, zero opportunities all reason I have less that 20 days left in this country.

Where you going? Plus what steps have you taken to leave? (Planning period etc) You a citizen of another country?

UK. I chose to marry someone who's bloodlines haven't been tainted by spending a few generations here at the asshole of the world. My wife is first generation European, I am second generation European. Going Home.

Been planning the Exodus since I got back in 06. Been planning it with my wife since before we got married. Prep is mostly just saving and getting all the paperwork in place.

Maybe it's just that lately it's been closer to us but I do think there's been an increase lately. Friend of mine got robbed and a week later (this past Friday) another friend of mine was shot in a mugging.

It's really sad. Someone broke into our neighbor's wendy house sunday morning.
People get shot for a 50c. The beggers at malls and fast food joints are just starting to tickle my temper.
One day when someone tries to harm my family, I will unleash the beast. But nothing will happen to the person harming us. I will be going to jail. It's just how corrupt this country has become.

That's so true, someone breaks into your home, tries to harm your family, you protect your family, the intruder sues you for assault on your property.

How much is this costing you?

I'm also looking at following this route withing 5 years, but haven't really started anything yet.

I've got a buddy of mine who immigrated, cost him about R50000 for all the permits and paperwork and all that other nonsense. That's a bit steep, but then again he isn't 2nd generation European, which I am as well.

R12K for the flights
R20K as a bit of capital
Visa is free since I'm married to a EU resident.
Moving all our shit over... Anything from R14K-R20K. Luckily that is only happening once we have our own place and are earning GBP.
Since we are staying with Family till we get on our feet which is a massive load off.

That's a huge burden gone not having to cover housing and that right off the bat. And work wise, you already got potential opportunities? Would seem risky moving without being certain of the opportunities. But then again, it isn't SA, so they would probably come plentiful compared to here.

All the best man.

I have two years managerial exp with in the medical sector and my wife has a BSc in Microbiology. One of us will get work, I've already gotten a few replies to feelers sent out.

But then again, it isn't SA, ...

Damn right! I know crime can be bad here and it is definitely a factor to consider, but the UK is not SA. Miserable people, miserable weather, miserable place. I've often thought about it and I can't actually think of anywhere in the world that beats SA for a lekker place to live, crime not withstanding. But even crime, hell it happens everywhere and more than you think.
