Following the news that UK-based Ghost studio would be taking complete control over the Need for Speed franchise with Need for Speed Rivals, Criterion Games (Need for Speed Most Wanted) is now a much smaller studio.

In a Twitter thread today, Criterion creative director Alexander Ward said that Criterion now consists of 16 employees, with one more on the way in two weeks, and that Ghost is now Ghost UK.

"Criterion is just 17 people these days..." he said. "We appreciate your support."

Although Criterion has been helping Ghost with Need for Speed Rivals, Criterion is busy with another project, and any future Need for Speed installments will be the work of Ghost.

Well like CD Projekt Red who were also a relatively small team comparably. I really enjoy The Witcher series and The Witcher 3 looks amazing.

IMO it's good that Ghost took over NFS. Criterion didn't do much for the NFS franchise - although the games were awesome to test drive some cars, with 0 car modding it's a big no no from me. Maybe I'm just spiteful nobody makes racing games with import cars and parts anymore.

Firstly, what does that have to do with Criterion's team size.

Secondly, CD Projekt Red is big. I honestly have no idea where you got the idea that they were small.

Thirdly, stop posting crap to rack up points for comps.

In the article Criterion is a much smaller team now and thank people for their support.

When Projekt RED was founded they were not sure if they would be able to make what they had planned happen. 2 guys out of high school taking on a dream that was pretty large at that stage. Achieving their dream would span over a couple of years resulting in the success of The Witcher series. What they made on The Witcher 1 went pretty much into financing The Witcher 2.

The point there being that regardless of studio size and employee base they can still be a success. That's where I drew the correlation to Projekt RED.

Where as cdp.pl may be large and have subsidiary companies, I quoted CD Projekt RED which is said to have between 50 and 200 employees. Yes their game is not related to the NFS series or genre, but they were a small group that made it work and has continued to make it work.

If you read the post correctly it said WERE relatively small COMPARABLY. So that you can see that here are some COMPARABLE game studios - yes some of which are related to the NFS genre.

CD Projekt RED - Employees +/-112
Criterion - 16 and soon to be 17
Activision - +/-4,000
Activison Blizzard - +/-7,061
Turn 10 - +/- 300
Polyphony Digital - +/-140
Codemasters - +/-800
Take-Two Interactive - +/-2,235

Enjoy and thanks for your post :)

See that wasn't so hard to make a proper post. Mind telling me where you got those numbers? LinkedIn?

Your original post still has nothing to do with the topic.

I disagree completely, think Criterions NFS Hot Pursuit was one of the best in the series. I'm glad they don't have modding, I just want to race.

Did blackbox do anything for the nfs franchise ? The answer is NO, all they did was rehash the same game engine from Hot pursuit 2 on the ps2 right up to Undercover, and nfs was never about modding ! NFS 1 to 5 was about supercars not honda civics with wings bigger than boeings, the only thing that made the underground games successful was it was cashing in on the F&F franchise, Criterion took hot pursuit back to its roots it carefully studied what made nfs 1 - 5 successful and it built upon that, blackbox was an abomonation of a development team and thats why all their games where never AAA titles, they hit a fluke with most wanted which was pretty good but that was it. criterions hot pursuit was the 1st one since the original HP to win a best on show E3 award, did blackbox achieve anything remotely close to that ? the answer is NO !

I do feel that Criterion did somewhat manage to bring the NFS franchise on its knees now (previously it was in the mud :D). I wonder if Criterion is going to make another Burnout game? So far, I am impressed with Ghost Games.

So I guess underground 1&2 , as well as most wanted doesn't count?

Look the reason I said criterion didn't do much for the franchise is because they reboot old titles, instead of adding something of their own to the franchise. Sure Hot Pursuit was awesome to test drive cars, with pretty visuals and realistic car handling, but was it the same when underground was introduced with the new import racing scene, where you could mod your cars almost infinitely, and had awesome street racing like drag and drift?

:D?

Also Underground 2 was EA Canada (shoot me if that is also BlackBox I just wikied :p)

I will admit I kind of enjoyed underground 1, but.... It was a long time ago ... and thought neon under cars were cool at the time. So not exactly going to base my like of the game on good taste.
