Crysis 2 was most pirated game of 2011

That's one of the ways your reply could have been interpreted, however if one reads it as it is it seems that you are saying that piracy doesn't influence development houses and there is no real loss, but actually as I've pointed out there is. Whether or not 100% of the pirates was going to buy it, it is still money down the drain that could have for example bought another wacom tablet, that could have paid a salary of a new employee.

Knowing you, might have cleared it up, but you could have written a more clear response that clearly points out what you were on about instead of going for a quick one liner that could be misinterpreted as I did and I'd bet a few others did as well.

Not everybody that is here or comes aboard magically knows you, btw.
You seem to assume in your reply that I support piracy in any way. I don't.

And Patpion's post was technically wrong - it was "potential" revenue that was lost, not actual revenue. You can't assume that everyone that pirated the game was going to buy it, just the same as you cannot assume that not one person who did have a pirated copy bought the game. You made both those assumptions in the bolded statement.

As for the second bolded bit ... Prophet - you should know me better by now. Piracy is theft as a matter of course, and I see it as such - jokes about the original still being there notwithstanding.

Hey, if steam had series that would be brilliant. :p

I'd wonder how that will go on one's wallet once they go sales as well with it. GoG will change (hopefully) the face of steam and origin a bit when they start with their service this year.

You're right, of course - I didn't actually think that far ahead when I posted that one-liner. Noted for future reference ;)

Hmmm... the piracy debate is huge. One of the biggest reasons why media has become so popular and widespread is due to piracy.

Many movies would go unnoticed if they were not pirated. Yet that small movie producer/game-dev/whatever has a chance to succeed as he/she/them get massive exposure.

Sure you can argue that pirates are getting stuff for free that others pay for and what has cost the producers money and forgone revenue. And rightly so, just because it is easy to pirate/use a copyright without permission does not make it correct or less wrong than not paying for any other goods/services. But solely blaming pirates for these issues is ridiculous as it is a give and take with copyright holders. And people clearly do not believe they are getting a fair deal when purchasing media.

I'm sure EA still made a ton of money off Crysis 2 regardless of all the pirating, but how much did Crytek, and the guys who actually worked on the game make?

Sweet irony. The developer who sold out gets pirated the most.

Probably find many fans of the original just pirated Crysis 2.

Please explain that statement.

Well I for one was confused because Crysis 2 seems to be almost completely unrelated to the events in Crysis 1 and Crysis Warhead. I don't know where these red aliens came from, so I wouldn't be too sure about purchasing the game immediately, maybe try it out first. Although I didn't pirate it, I played it at a friend.

Lol. As I gave up on the original crysis (which my then rig was barely able to run) the change in alien didn't really affect me. I think it was due to Richard K Morgan being brought onboard to write the plot. He had to take what little plot the original had and build a sequel narrative around what he had. I think it worked pretty well. Didn't the alien in the first Crysis turn red when they got pissed?

I didn't think Crysis 2 was as good a game as the original. However it wasn't a bad game by any stretch and while it didn't quite live up to the original it did deserve to be bought if you wanted to play it, I mean it was priced lower than most other new releases.

For shame...

I for one never pirate games as I don't really even play games on PC because I moved over to Xbox 360, and if I the pirated way with my Xbox that would mean I wouldn't get access to all the wonderful online features. But yeah, IMO Crysis 2 really impressed me, I was happy with the overall gameplay and I thought it was an improvement over the original as well as it being console-user friendly when using your nano suit's abilites.
