Crytek developing Arena of Fate

Yay, a new arena shooter!

and it’s a MOBA

Oh.

Good concept though. Pulling characters from fiction and history together into a MOBA. If the mechanics are solid and they carry the theme well it might do okay.

Another day... another MOBA

The thing that makes we wonder is that the people most likely to try out a MOBA are those who are already playing MOBA's and are quite happy (or raging happy) with the MOBA's they are already playing. So it's actually quite a hard market to break into when you have the heavy weights of LoL and Dota 2 around.

This must so true, despite peoples feelings about MOBA's it's probably the most popular genre globally at the moment. I believe LoL is the most played at most watched video game at the moment. Dota2 just beat out WoW on number of players. It's interesting though because Smite, Awesomenauts and to a lesser extent Dawngate all have solid decently size fanbases. Granted Smite and Awesomenauts deviate a fair bit from the norm.

I assume Blizzard will do well with Heroes of the Storm too because of their substantial amount of fans.

The only MOBA that's really taken a hit is HoN and Demigod, but that's because demigod was awful.

I like the genre, even with it's faults. If this turns out to be good then I'll just have more options as to what game I want to play. If it's bad it'll probably fade into history pretty quickly.

Yay, a new arena shooter!

I wish there was a modern arena shooter(unreal tournament 1999 still stands as my favourite), but having said that Titanfall was pretty close and by most accounts once people unlocked everything they became bored rapidly and that title has seen very little post launch excitement overseas. By most accounts it was played for a week or two then dropped.

I think modern gamers are so enamored with progression systems that it's become the norm. It makes me wonder what the new Unreal F2P will be like.

Good points there. And as an aside, I love Awesomenauts! Currently addicted to it if I'm honest.

It's between Awesomenauts and Smite for me. I LOVE everything about Awesomenauts and Ronimo is a great dev. Smite is just different and I like the idea of ancient gods beating the hell out of each other!
