I would rather have a game with mediocre looks and great AI than a game that looks amazing, kills your PC, and the lack of competent AI makes the make dull, dull, dull. Also the gaming community keep treading water on certain topics, one being that consoles are primarily for kids and PC's are cultured gamer. Right now if the gaming scene is going down it has little to do with the platform itself and rather with a publishers / developers producing what people want (even though I find most of it soulless). As long as we (you) keep buying these titles little will change until the next fad arrives.
I still feel the best AI I have encountered in a FPS is from Half-Life 1. Maybe I am viewing it through rose-tinted glasses, but man when I first played that game the AI was fantastic. Let's see what they do with Crysis 2. Fantastic AI means little if there is little synergy with the gameplay / environment.
