Hello Folks
I managed to bugger up my 2TB Vertatim Store n Save by allowing it to drop a few too many times, this happened about a year ago. When it finally stopped being detected by my USB drives I just wrote it off as my own stupidity and popped it in a my cupboard.
Today I was doing some cleaning through my cupboards and noticed it, it had quite a bit of stuff I wanted to retrieve. But because I couldn't detect it via my laptop's USB's I assumed it had crashed or something horrible like that.
I plugged it in today, and what do you know? It picked up the HDD!!! But if move or touch the power supply or USB cable it imminently disconnects and shuts down. So I think it's safe to assume the power supply and/or USB cable are buggered but the actual HDD is in perfect condition.
I would like to salvage it if possible, 2TB external HDD's don't just grow on trees.
I've googled it extensively and my understanding is I can salvage it by just getting another case. What I haven't been able to figure out is if I will need to get another Vertatim Store n Save or if any enclosure will do? Obvioulsy an enclosure that is the same size, this is a 3,5" HDD. Something along the lines of this.

Secondly, when the time comes that I have everything for my PC build, can I strip this down to the internal 3,5" HDD and pop it in like I would if I bought a new internal HDD?
Apologies for the long "rant" but I would just like a bit of clarity.
Regards
Justin
