Dark Souls - Prepare to Die

Started playing this on my brother's PC yesterday. Bad port aside, it looks okay. Had to fiddle around a bit to get somewhere close to being competent in the game, and even though the camera is a bit icky it's not that bad.

Started with a knight, defeated the Asylum Demon, then skipped through the dialog because I want to get to the hack 'n slash bits. Big mistake, because I didn't know where I was supposed to go. Went to the graveyard where I promptly got decimated by the skeletons. About 7 times. So I reroll and this time decide on a Pyromancer. Everything is a lot easier due to his fire attack thingy. Still get decimated in the graveyard.

So I read up on Google what my issue is, and apparently I'm supposed to head off to the Undead Parish first. Oops. :p

I managed to kill the skeletons as a knight. But yes its better to go to the undead parish. It doesn't get any easier.

No, it certainly does not. I am now stuck on the part with the boar. I'm considering grinding souls on the dragon bridge to level up, but it feels kinda like cheating.

Also, the only reason I passed the Taurus demon is because the eedjit jumped off the roof and died. :p

Lol. Dude I stabbed the iron boar in the ass. also let him run into the fires.

Yeah, I managed to get past him. Threw fireballs at him from the walkway above, but I was out of health potions and then died straight after. :p

Quick question: How good is the Drake Sword really? Because I don't have a bow and arrows to shoot the dragon with due to me killing the merchant by accident. If the sword is good enough, I'll restart.

I havent managed to do that. I think it was patched out with the pc version. I tried and tried but that tail never fell off.

The Drake Sword is probably one of the most powerful weapons you can find early in the game, while not really a necessity I would recommend getting it if you plan to spend a lot of time in melee combat. Most weapons upgraded to +5 will do more damage than it due to stats not affecting on the Drake Sword, but it should last you quite a while, especially if you're still new to the game. If you have a magic based character and plan to do most of you're attacking with spells, then I don't think it's all that important. (I could be wrong though, haven't really played with a magic based character yet).

Damn, this is making want to carry on with my game. I stop playing due to too many games coming out and me not having the time to commit to just Dark Souls (also, Blighttown = depressing). I still have my level 80 (farmed a lot in Darkroot Garden) character waiting for me to get the time/patience to give it another go and make some actual progress as opposed to just leveling up my character.

Wow, I created a new character. Pyromancer again. What took me 3 hours yesterday took me 30 minutes today. Love how you get better and better as you learn the game.

Also, I got the Drake sword and OMG. It's amazing. If I can find an opening when their shields aren't up, I pretty much one shot kill most of the enemies I'm currently fighting against.

So I recently started playing this and figured I would just revive this thread a little with a screenshot.

Here is the game using DSfix v2.1 running at 1920x1200 using SMAA, SSAO [medium], Anisotropic filtering and DoF. A rather large improvement over the original.

Are you using a controller? I see the steam page recommends one.
I am. Although I did see that the DSfix also includes some stuff which makes using the KB+M better by allowing rebinding keys and improving the behaviour of the camera when using the mouse.

Looks nice :) to bad I'm not really into rpg's....

You don't know what you're missing dude. You have to at least try either Demon's Souls or Dark Souls out once in your life. There is nothing quite like it. I still have to finish Dark Souls someday ...

Been royally pillaged and plundered I have to take a break now from doing die-do...

At least I killed the demon boss tuaros thing after that black night and ring, but I just couldn't killed the black knight. I had to go frodo style to grab the ring and then be pillaged all over again.

I was wondering however that gold dust you pick up it just went missing from my inventory after being thoroughly run through by the demons boss on the bridge....

...my body has no more body left only holes :(

You don't lose items when you die, you only lose unspent souls. If you need some advice then hit me up, I'm fairly clued up after beating the game a few weeks ago. :)

BTW the dude on the bridge is the Kite Dragon and you don't need to fight him, just run across and stick to the right and go down the staircase.

Also tail = drake sword, don't miss it. :P
