Just a warning to anyone planning to get darkspore today, my patch is currently on 925 megs, and it still has 16 files to go

Reminds of HOMEFRONT when I installed it.. Here's my rage/rant over here : http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...port-piracy-..-aarrghhh-me-mateys.?highlight=

lol, it does happen with steam from time to time where the game wants to redownload itself on install. just remove it and try again.

if unfortunately there is large patches, imho you can only but blame the development house that pushed to release without doing proper testing, tuning and development- opted for release now and fix later.

still have we lived in the states, 5 gig/1 gig patch would be a lol at proper line speeds and proper networking structure. alas we have telkom, the NP who gave them monopoly and took other telecommunication companies away. yep we actually had more than one, but thanks to them and ANC we have them as it is today. just be thankful it's turning around even at snails pace.

that's my 2c, i feel your pain it's kak to put in a game and see ZOMG i would only be able to play x amount of hours later than just playing the damned think. still you have to think about all factors at play before just blaming steam.

i mean lets blame isps for kak internet state, where clearly it might seem it's them, but actually we have nice telkom/goverment to blame our great ipc/network.

To anyone getting the "Darkspore is currently not available for play. Please try again during a scheduled play test" screen after install, just leave the screen open. I know it only has a minimize and close button, but if you leave it open for a few minutes, it will suddenly jump into action and start downloading the 25 patch files needed before you can play.

I waited about 10 minutes, others have waited anything from 2 to 30 minutes.

Another "solution" is to download the entire game from D2D or Steam, but that would be a 5 Gig download.

I'm certainly not very happy with this turn of events; had this happened with most other games, I would've uninstalled the game before the patching process even started. But having looked forward to Darkspore for a significant amount of time, I shall allow this slight incommodiousness to momentarily become part of my life.

So those of you who have been able to play it so far, is it any good?

How does it compare to Diablo type games?

Umm, been playing for a bit now and it has been great fun. The crux of the game is playing with others (I guess that is why it is online only). While you can do stages by yourself, it is so much more fun doing it with others (and there is more loot).

There are many heroes to unlock and choose from. While it uses a very simplistic system as far as stats and skills go, there is still a good degree of diversity from hero to hero.

It is still early days, but I am liking it so far. Finding groups is a breeze, and then messing around with the looks of your heroes is a nice touch.

Stil thinking about getting this.
Do you think the game wil atleast alst a while before it gets boring?

I will certainly say the game is good fun, IF, you play with people. Good thing is that the group finding tool has pretty much worked flawlessly so far. Takes under 30secs so far to find someone or a full group.

However, there are some bad points. The game lacks in control. While you do have 25 heroes to pick from, that generally play in a unique fashion from one to the next, you have little control over them besides equips. No stats to apply, no level-ups, no skills to invest. Skills are set, but there are slots open for shared skills.

Customizing the look of ones heroes is great. In other games everyone ends up looking the same (generally). Here you can easily make them standout somewhat.

I am reviewing this game for MyGaming, so expect a review either Friday, or next week Monday for more depth and a overall score. I still need to check out PvP proper.

I will only be getting this if a couple of my buddies get it too. With an average score of 7.0-7.5 I'm guessing this title won't be popular for too long.

dont forget that if u install the game on the root of any hdd by mistake and uninstall it normally, it will wipe out ur hard drive xD,
and if ur internet is slow, ur hero edits wont be saved or u wont be able to log-in the game.
also rarely, u'll get kicked out of a mission and lose all data and items gotten :/
that game is full of bugs!! maxis needs to pull it together, because the game is actually quite good :/
