Anyone going to try this? Pre-ordered mine from Take2, shipping due tomorrow. Game doesn't seem all that great, but looks fun enough when bored.

Just waiting for the steam download to finish, then i'll let you know. I got nothing better to do, so a month or two of this can't be bad ;) .

So far the blogs/reviews basically indicate that if you liked games like Prototype / Infamous , then DC will feel right at home. It's that kind of game. Now if you wanted a more statistical WoW-like experience [where your gear and character stats ultimately determine how fast you kill] this might not be your kind of game.

That's why i am also assuming the reviews will be very love-hate . You either like this action rpg type of stuff or you hate it.

Hmm what do you specifically mean by that? I've played DAoC, SWG, AoC, and War quite intensely the last couple of years (never WoW though). Even though I dislike DC, and don't even really know any of the heroes and villains I thought this would be nice for a bit of a change.

Basically I'm looking for something to keep me till SWTOR comes out, and I reckon this should do nicely.

By that i mean, in all those games you mentioned your chance to hit and the amount of damage has 10% to do with when you press the button and 90% to do with how your character's stats are at the time. AoC is a bit of an exception with the combos, but Funcom did turn those 5-sequence combos into 2 sequence combos [so it's not as actiony as it was in the beginning] , which made AoC "easier" and more emphasis on your gear [that is why everyone is grinding in AoC...for the gear] .

Now i haven't yet played DCUO but from previews, it's clear it is a "button mashing" game where timing and twitchy-reactions are more important than your stats. This is not necessarily bad because it can mean you don't need to grind for gear and might be able to beat someone purely on skills . Obviously people use to relying on stats will not like this [most RPGs work on this principle] .

Basically, imagine if you could put on a "cloak of aiming +4" in MW2/CoD/Battlefield and mysteriously you can snipe people without aiming properly. Players would call that cheating, but that is exactly how most MMOs work. DCUO's combat seems to favor more twitchy reactions and less reliance on your stats ....or so i am led to believe.

SWG is actually a good example , even though you have to aim towards a target you can still miss purely because of your stats . So your "skill" at aiming means less than your character's stats. DCUO seems to be the opposite.

WoW on he other hand,it's all gear , it's in fact so gear focused that the game can already determine whether you are ready for an area or dungeon PURELY by looking at your gear.

Anyway, i'm also going to play DCUO for the same reason, also waiting for SWTOR (late in the year?) , Earthrise (launching next month) or RIFT (launching march) . I'm sure DCUO is fun, whether it is a game one would play for more than 3 months is another story.

This game seems to be a action / RPG hybrid, with more focus on the action. Like diablous said, it will be a love / hate thing I would imagine. At the very least it is a change of pace, but I would like to know if latency is a huge issue in this game considering its action core.

I am too busy now with other games to bother with this, maybe later. But I am curious to see what is going to happen once the monthly sub hits, since its design may not be very conducive to keeping players longterm.

Finally got it going after a 6GB patch *sigh* .

Anyway so far, i like the game. Combat is very smooth , and definitely plays like an action game , kinda like Devil May Cry or something like that [jumping in the air, coming down hard , flipping over enemy etc etc ]

Also already pvp'ed some, i think i prefer this kind of combat for pvp over say WoW's combat :)

now for the big question really.

is it fun? do you see yourself atleast still playing it occasionally after 3 months?

Hoping it is a good one

It is definitely fun, and i actually DO see this game as one i'd play "occasionally" after 3 months. Problem is, the subscription is going to interfere with it. I might play it actively for 3 months, but once i only want some quick actiony fun "occasionally" it'll be hard to justify keeping a sub running for it. So it's hard to say, it also highly depends on the content SOE pours out . Champions took a year to add more content, which was too late , if SOE can stick to a 3 month content plan it might keep me occupied.

Ultimately this seems more of a PvP game [or rather that is where it seems to shine] and just like with MW2/BF2, as long as there's a new map every now and then, people will keep playing...

Lucky you, are you playing on EU or USA? I think it would have been less if i kept it USA [that was the default from steam] , so maybe the switchover to EU added a few more GBs.

Oh right lol, my bad you got your version off Steam so of course you dld more.
Na I just picked up my copy from BT games today - installed the 10 gigs off the 3 disks and then registered my account and had to leave for work (where I am now)
From what I could tell I'm on the EU based account and EU based servers ...
I'll find out tomorrow when I get home - what "Planet" you pick? (just read the manual and what i figure servers are referred to as planets?)

There's 4 EU servers atm, 2 PvE and 2 PvP . I picked Bloodstorm [PvP Server], it's the server with the highest population, and i actually had a 5 minute queue at about 9pm .

Hey guys

Have any of you had a freezing issue?
Basically i installed the game and downloaded the 2.3 gig patch.
I create my character and start the first mission but the whole game freezes 2 minutes in and I have to hard reset my ps3.

Im thinking about getting this game, would anyone be as kind to rate the overall experience of this mmo from 1 to 10, 10 being the bes t rating..

I really enjoyed this game, while it lasted. Rating is a bit tricky, as a single player super hero RPG, i'd give it an 8 . As an MMO, i'd give it a 6 . Does that make sense?

In other words : This game got awesome action based combat with combos and all , flying around and all the DC superhero lore you can ask for (so much so that i actually bought some comics to read more about certain heroes) . The game is fun to play, more fun than most MMOs actually.

Unfortunately in MMO terms, the social aspect of the game sucks imho, the UI is terrible for any form of grouping and chatting. The game is also extremely short, you will "finish" this game under a month easily . It is not worth a subscription fee, but i'd say it's worth the initial box cost at least.

When i say "short" , it is short for an MMO, but long for a single player game. I played it for about 1.5 months , every night and had like 3 characters at the level cap. There's no crafting or any of the usual MMO "Grind" while you level , and at the level cap the game turns into a lobby arena match [i.e. you will be standing around queing up for PvP Matches or Raids , both of which will get pretty boring fast] .

There's open world PvP and so on, but just like in any other MMO, it's gank feast with no purpose. So don't get your hopes up expecting much of that.

So i'd say enjoy the leveling to the cap, and don't expect anything after that.

I expect this game to go Free2Play soon enough, because DCUO simply are not designed to be a subscription game. I have no idea what sony was thinking here. They are not able to produce content fast enough to justify the sub, and the end game is falling flat because you need groups of players to do it with = no players = long queues to do dungeons/pvp = people quit = game dies.
