Dead Island review scores and opinion roundup

Will be keeping my eye out on this one, hoping that the lower review scores are due to the bugs and nothing else as the game does look to be a fun one

Another rushed, fail game for 2011.

At least they're fixing it, which is a whole lot better than most developers do. Still can't play Prototype or The Saboteur properly.

And it's not really rushed, it was just released unfinished due them giving out the wrong version. :P

THIS!

Also I'm so playing this.... minds made up... issues most likely wont screw up the game for me... I'll find out tonight.

EDIT:Watching a colleague play this at work now... on his HP 8460p Laptop... Looks mooi.

Dont know about you guys, but the main menu screen with water backround and blood in the water made me extremely happy.

Sorry man, didnt mean to.
But yeah, i watched the clock go down on steam, then this morning woke up at 6 just to get it started, what a problem it was.
First, it wanted a defrag.
2nd, it wanted to update.
3rd, steam needed a restart.
4th, steam needed to defrag.
5th, un encrypting files.
6th, installing DirectX
7th, actually start game.
8th, time to go to work.

I only saw the intro and then the main menu....I wanna go home cause of the excuse Rugby, but it aint working.

um, this game is freaking awesome.
I don't want to go to far ahead in SP mode so taking a break, but ... this game is freaking awesome.

There are a few niggly things they need to work out, mainly in game chat with a push to talk option...
couple other minor glitches, but the overall game play is great.
Also need to make sure keep the gamma at default or it will mess with the graphics.

Upgrading / repairing weapons, gathering parts to create your own weapons of dooooom. Levelling your character (going the Fury route) Chatting to the islanders (npcs) for more quests, occasionally you also hear things on the radio for random islanders needing help, it doesn't give you a proper quest, but it is something you can do if you want to, all of this adds to the atmosphere of the game.

Running around solo is a bit freaky, because some of the zombies are slow and easy kills, but occasionally you get the runners who will sneak up on you (this is also why I want push to talk on mic) The combat is just fun, can throw a spear at them (or a wrench), kick at them, beat them to death with a nail baton (which you make), and you need to time it properly and not exhaust yourself, or you will find yourself in a spot of trouble if there is a group of them.

I got to a point where there said there was another online player nearby, basically at the same point as me and had the option to join them which is pretty funky. So if you want to drop in and out of another player's game - it's easy to do. You can opt out at any time and just carry on with your own last point in story line.

I've only come across one "boss" zombie so far who was harder to kill and required a bit of leet tactic. (running away while throwing things at him)
So far, just really enjoying this game. It does feel a bit like fallout with zombies and left4dead combined which is just awesome.

The melee combat is fun, kicking them away from you helps you to get that edge to take a swipe with your weapon. If you hit different spots can cripple them (slow them down) so it's actually crucial for when you go against higher level zombies that you can learn a few neat quick kills to take them down.

The scenery in game is beautiful, absolutely stunning. Exploring the areas looking for things to salvage (opening up luggage etc) is actually quite a interesting task as you can find many different things that are either crap, or can help you build a interesting weapon.

I'm looking forward to another co-op session later.

Hey Amph, that sounds like fun. Co-op the better way to play. Heard it described like borderlands with zombies.

Played about an hour so far now and it's fucking awesome!!! Exactly what I wanted, exploring the world is awesome and killing hordes of undead rocks.

Played two/three hours so far in co-op. I'm willing to give it 8/10 (SO FAR). I like it, it's awesome fun co-op and the quests aren't bad.

Curious how some reviewers have justified 3/10 reviews :wtf:

So your friends don't hear you scream like a little girl? :p

I'm guessing that those reviewers just got unlucky and were bogged down with the bugs.
