Deadpool Movie: 2016!

So it seems that Deadpool is finally getting his movie. It's by Fox and it looks like it's because of the viral success of the test footage made by Reynolds et al.

LOS ANGELES — Comic books are selling at a record clip these days, in no small part due to the success of Deadpool, Marvel's trash-talking, fourth-wall-breaking mercenary whose legions of costumed fans are overrunning every 'Con you can shake a ninja sword at.

Why rights-holder 20th Century Fox took this long to greenlight a Deadpool movie, nobody knows. But it looks like it's finally happened.

Months after a test reel leaked Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as the title character, Fox confirms to Mashable that it has greenlit the film for a Feb. 12, 2016 release date. According to The Hollywood Reporter, VFX guru Tim Miller, who shot the test footage, will direct; and Reynolds is all but assured to play the Merc With the Mouth.

Reynolds played Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009, but that version was such a horrible mutation of the comic book version that any notion that this is an X-Men spinoff is laughable. And fear not: The "leaked" test footage (above) shows Reynolds in the traditional red and black suit, whose dialogue hews much closer to the character who's moved reams and reams of paper since Robert Liefeld created him in the early 1990s.

Now the question becomes: Will Deadpool be rated R? It should be. Deadpool is as dark and bloody as he is funny — he loves to kill, because he's very good at it — and his gallows humor is what makes him so ... lovable? Or something. If Fox tries to go the PG-13 route (and they might), Deadpool will be so watered down that fans will be unhappy, and newcomers will wonder what all the fuss was about.

Make no mistake: The reaction to the "leaked" footage (which Fox made very little effort to squash) has everything to do with this decision. Fans loved it, we loved it, and even Reynolds couldn't keep his mouth shut about it, telling the Niagara Falls Review:

"The movie has been in a state of limbo for a while. There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage, you sort of feel like, 'Oh, so we weren't crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.' It's interesting to see the power of the Internet. It's awe-inspiring, actually. And it's neat that Twitter and Facebook and Instagram can move mountains when used in the right way."

The "mountain" being Fox's slowness to recognize that Deadpool is a huge, huge superhero hit just waiting to happen.

I don't know much about comic books, but Deadpool seems like a very interesting character for a movie. Hope it turns out well.

His character is synonymous for breaking the fourth wall constantly in the comics he features in and in games.

Man i saw this on IGN just now and i am so stoked i can't wait, Next to Batman, Deadpool is my Fav character. Saw the "trailer" a couple of weeks ago and it was damn good so if that is anything to go by the movie will rock

Chimmy Chungas for everybody

Am I the only one that if I hear that voice I imagine Green lantern and not deadpool?

Well Ryan Reynolds did play Deadpool in one of the X-men films, plus his talkative nature complements the personality of Deadpool.
That was NOT Deadpool. That was an abomination. Hopefully this time it will be proper. The test footage was spot on though so I have high hopes.

The limited knowledge that I know of deadpool that was not deadpool. Seeing as the timeline is also wrong apparently. ps I mean hear not year :p Anyone have a good origins vid for deadpool?

Great. I love the Deadpool character but I hope Fox can pull it off properly. They've made shitty Marvel movies apart from the X-MEN stuff. Deadpool needs to be ultra violent, witty to a sick degree and fully aware that he's in a movie. I've seen this character feed another guy his flesh and try to get into Death's pants. They can't dumb this down or make it PG.

Let it be R-rated!!

Deadpool in a nutshell.....

He was weapon X in the xmen movie not deadpool :p but anything before that little is known. He was in the army special forces and got kicked out then became an assassin that changed his identity every time he failed. Much more than that i don't know. But weapon X made him.

I suspect there will be a lot of sexist, chauvinistic quotes in the movie. Rated either 16+ or 18+.

Just the language and violence alone would warrant a 18 Age restriction.

AFAIK, I doubt there will be it's not in his character, he can be called a skirt chaser but I haven't known him to be a chauvinist. Not that I would actually know, I very rarely read any comics and the ones I did read there either Deadpool or Barracuda, manga and Manhwa are more my thing.

In anticipation for this movie I went ahead and acquired a couple of Deadpool comics. I started reading it last night and haven't really noticed the extreme violence and language you guys refer to. I get the wit and sarcasm and his love for women, but I can see how they'll be able to open it up to a wider audience with a PG13 rating.
