Decent Laptop

Alright, so my girlfriend wants to get a laptop. She's looking to pay between R5000 and R6500.

Any advice on something decent with a sort of long-lasting battery?

She won't be gaming on it so onboard intel graphics would even suffice.:p

If you really need battery life, check the acer timeline machines, i think asus also has their long lasting laptop range cant remember what they were called but i know their battery life is around 7-9 hours which is quiete nice, you will notice the laptops by seeing if the use the CPU's that expecially were made for low power consumption

Thanks for the replies guys!

I been checking around, and I've narrowed it down to these 2:

1. http://www.acer.co.za/ac/en/ZA/content/model/LX.TZB03.039

2. http://www.packardbell.co.za/pb/en/SA/content/model/LX.BMJ02.002

I can get both for R6000 each. Anyone maybe familiar with either of these that could vouch for one or the other?

Don't ever forget to take a look at Incredible Connection. Sometimes they have really really good specials. They recently had the 5 special thing, i5, 5 gigs ddr3 ram and 500gig hdd for R5500.

And they thrown in free internet data packages with all laptops.

I would go for an ASUS or an Acer Laptop they seem to be one of the best in the market although ASUS is cheaper than Acer by a bit.

For her usage

i3 or i5 Cpu Dual Core is fine
4 gig ram
Hardrive size wouldnt matter for her
Make sure it has a good ventilation system or fan will buzz like crazy like my laptop :p
Wireless N to future proof it

i wouldnt buy an Acer, i know of far too many ppl who had one that broke after 3 months....and it was an issue getting a replacement or getting it fixed

Strange I've had 2 so far with no problems same with my friends. The one has lasted for over 7 years with no problems which I sold to a friend all that stopped working was the battery and friend reports that it's still going strong lol.

My newest one is almost 3 years old with no problems yet apart from usual dust.

All my friends seem to be alright on them maybe your friends got bad batches? I agree their service delivery is quite slow, but they replaced my brothers laptop quite easily years ago (He chose the bottom of range acer laptop lol).

Same Here
We use Acer on a Corporate Scale (23 Laptops Deployed) All Acer and all specifically Acer due to some excellent First Line support
Personally I grew up on Acer, my first 386 was one and all of my desktops/laptops have been Acer up until the Alienware.
Never had any issues
