Deciding what platform to game on

MalicE

Party time! Excellent!
As a multi-platform gamer (PC & PS4) I was recently, for the first time, in a situation where I had to choose which platform to buy a game for. Normally this wasn't an issue. console exclusives go on the console, everything else is for the Master Race.

But now I was faced with a game I really want that plays on all platforms.

so I was wondering, how do you guys decide what games you get for which platform?

Back when I still had a pc, I used to buy FPS & action RPG games on PC, with 3rd person action/rpg game, platformers and sport games on console. Reason was I believed I needed to play FPS/ARPG games with a keyboard and mouse.

Then I played Diablo 3 on PS3, and it played better than the PC version. So scratch that from the PC list. Thus just FPS type games remained on PC. Just thought maintaining a gaming pc in the long run the way I used to (CUD) was not worthwhile just for a few FPS games that I could anyways play on console if I wanted. Not advocating everyone to switch to console, just saying what worked for me.

I have heard that before but still can't believe it :wtf:

Got D3:Reaper of Souls on PS4 now. Can highly recommend it if you like ARPG's. The controls feel at home on the controller. And even better, no lag as you can play the game offline.

I bought it for PC :(

and my G13 doesn't have enough buttons for all the keys that need to be mapped

Blizzard did an amazing job with how diablo controls on console.Lately I buy everything for ps4 but when I upgrade my gpu in my pc I will have to research my purchases more closely.

that's my problem now. My GPU isn't the young buck it used to be so I have to start looking at other alternatives and it makes me feel like a traitor

PC is more often cheaper and will run better, depending on your performance. Unless console-exclusive, I will be for PC is the option is available.
Unless it's an Arkham Knight situation.

yeah PC will always be cheaper

but when you are in a situation where the PC version won't run as smooth as it will on your console (and it's not a FPS) then I start to reconsider

if you have a 900 series graphics card trust me its always PC

That's a lot of bolony. I have a decent enough mid range rig that play just about everything on high/ultra and some times I still choose console over PC.

For me it depends on the game.

It also depends on the specials and all kinds of things. But mostly for me it's about the game.

For instance I got Dragon Age Inquisition on the XBox One rather than on the pc because it's a game where I can plop down in front of the tv and relax with it. Even if the pc version is cheaper. But then something like Far Cry 4 I'd rather get on the pc.

It's a case by case situation.

I prefer the PC's controls, but I prefer the ease of sitting in my lounge on a couch playing PS4 on a large PC, with my wife and dogs close by. For PC gaming, I have to sit in a small spare room....

So I think I've gotten to the point where I will play anything on PS4, except for a FPS game. This needs to be played on the PC.

Example: I "got" witcher 3 from the interwebz, to try on my PC. I liked it, so I bought it on PS4. Now myself and the wife take turns to play Witcher on PS4 in our lounge. This beats PC gaming for me.

This is awesome, something could never get right. Only wish I could find someone who shares an interest in gaming.

my wife loves the Trine series, hence she now compares everything to Trine so I can't get her to play anything else cause "it doesn't look like Trine". Except for Trivial Persuit Live. that she'll play all day

lol ok, lets look at this in a simple way which platform is expensive to play games on?
I know that ps4 or xbox one is about life in the living room family bonding and all that ...

but with a Epic Rig ...when you go back to ps4 / xbox one ...you feel like u just went for xbox 360 / ps4
and that's my opinion lol.

I hardly touch my PS3 these days. I still prefer PC, even if it is a game that I can "plop" myself in front of the TV with. In that case, I've got a long HDMI cable and a XBox controller which works perfect with Steam Big Picture mode. So I have all the benefits of the console, but with better graphics and cheaper games. :)
I played Dragon Age 3 with keyboard and mouse (worked better for me), but Witcher 3 was entirely in front of the TV with controller.

Get a non-gamer and "teach" her. It is just a matter of finding the right game at first. With my wife, I got her started on Dragon Age 1 and Skyrim, although, she got bored of that after a while... The character building / customisation is what drew her in. From there I took her to Saints Row 3 which she loved and finished together. We're still busy with Saints Row 4 (stuck with a bug) and meanwhile she is almost finished with Kingdoms of Amalur... did it all by herself and loved it. These days when I get back from squash on Monday nights, I usually catch her busy playing her game. :)
I got us a couple of multiplayer games that we still have to get into but we haven't really played games this last 2 weeks.

Dude! Your opinion is your opinion but mine is that you are delusional. :)

The thing is that you are talking to people here who actually own high end pcs and consoles. In fact both BeoTeK and I are both PC and console gamers. Consoles and computers have their places and we play certain games on certain platforms.

But then, I play 360 games still too. For me it's not about the graphics so much but about the games and gaming.

What kind of games do you play Mash? Have you ever played something like Braid?

I wish I had time for console gaming. I barely have enough time for PC gaming, so my PS3 and PS4 are gathering dust... Well, not entirely true - my PS3 is a perfect Netflix box. :p

My PS4 is almost a year old now and I STILL haven't played a single game on it. I've considered selling it numerous times as well and attempted it once, but no fishy bitey. :(
