Destiny is the biggest launch title ever

"That given, the publisher appears to have broken even on Tuesday with a soaring launch of the title."

It's just scary that they have made what they put in, literally a day (or two) after release! And this number will surely just grow from here on in.

Just goes to show, that the new silver screen is the gaming industry!

When you are already making profit on the second day after release is actually mind-boggling. Especially considering the gargantuan nature of the budget.

That marketing budget putting in the work

Just goes to show how well marketing and hype can sell a game. It certainly wasn't the reviews, those only started trickling in recently, and so far they seem to suggest that the game is good, but not great.

Eugene, I am not too sure about that eh. I mean, I know a few people (quite a few actually), who don't even know what Destiny is (apart from it being a game), and I end up sitting and explaining the ins and outs of it to them. The marketing couldn't have been that great where the gamers (albeit PC) aren't even familiar with the IP.

The reviews seem to be accurate because my friends that are playing it on ps4 are saying the same.. they say its okay, but they keep going back to it so it definitely keeps hold of them

I am convinced most of the sales are from the US, where Halo was larger than sex. With a legacy like Halo behind your name, the Murricans will eat anything you give them, thrice over.

The game looked interesting enough at one point, kinda Borderlands-ish, but with more players. I guess I'll give it a spin one day, but for now I've got more than enough games that need completing.

How would you explain the huge number of sales, if you exclude hype and marketing?

Halo fanboys!

lol... in all seriousness, I agree with your logic. But I think most of it came from the states. I have seen videos and what of New York's Wall Street plastered with screens across buildings creating a panoramic vista of Destiny adverts. But here on the other hand it felt a little lack lustered. I mean shit, I didn't even know what Destiny was about just before the beta. I knew it was a game, but that was it. And I think a lot of the communities depended on internet (and news sites like MyG) alone as a medium of advertisement.
Or maybe it just came down to my experiences with PC-is-the-master-race-fan-boys and their ignorance and unwillingness to think outside the box and see past their noses.

Just my 2c, not hating on you.

Yeah the marketing effort in the states is huge. Billboards, TV adverts. Everyone and their dog knew that this have to have game called Destiny is coming out.

All that advertising really does work

I wonder if the division is going to be this successful.. I sure hope so, they better make and advertise it well because I'm excited about the idea

I seriously hope so. You can never tell until its released or at least some open beta testing has occurred .

Still pretty disappointed there is no PC version of Destiny.

Personally I prefer them concentrating on one version at a time, I feel if they did pc and console at the same time then not as much work would be done to the game itself.. but I agree.. I still sucks not having a PC version

This is why the game sold well.
Halo has an insanely large following all over the world, and Bungie (Creator of Halo) is behind Destiny.
I knew from the get go the game would do well purely on that basis, from what I've played its pretty good but nothing groundbreaking, it plays and feels a lot like borderlands.
