Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - The Mechanical Apartheid

So, luckily Telkom fixed the line, and last night u got to play the first 2 hours or so of the game. First impressions: the game is sublime!! Its giving me the same feeling I had playing the first game.

The worst problem I've seen thus far via streams is choppy framerates and lip synching not in sync.

I must be lucky, frame rates are fine. The lip syncing is terrible, but i thought it was that general issue they have with multiple languages and the software used to do it. Is it only an issue on the PC version?

Deus Ex has never had good lip syncing. In fact people shouldn't even expect this game to be any different. HR was the same and the same issues were highlighted then as well. I don't think Eidos Montreal know how to do proper lip syncing.

I'm not sure, I think it applies across the board to be honest.

Yeah it is pretty bad, but to be honest I doesn't bother me that much. It's a nice to have, but I think I will get over not having good lip syncing. So far enjoying the gameplay though.

lol the steam comment section...people are so fucking thick.
Maxing MSAA and then crying that the port is horrible...Idiocy.

In case someone doesn't know, MSAA is a performance killer..Let's just say there is no single graphics card on earth that'll run this game at 60 fps maxed with MSAA at 8x.
In supersample anti-aliasing, multiple locations are sampled within every pixel, and each of those samples is fully rendered and combined with the others to produce the pixel that is ultimately displayed. This is computationally expensive, because the entire rendering process must be repeated for each sample location. It is also inefficient, as aliasing is typically only noticed in some parts of the image, such as the edges, whereas supersampling is performed for every single pixel.

In multisample anti-aliasing, if any of the multi sample locations in a pixel is covered by the triangle being rendered, a shading computation must be performed for that triangle. However this calculation only needs to be performed once for the whole pixel regardless of how many sample positions are covered; the result of the shading calculation is simply applied to all of the relevant multi sample locations.

In the extreme case where only one triangle covers every multi sample location within the pixel, only one shading computation is performed, and these pixels are little more expensive (and the result is no different) than in the non-anti-aliased image. This is true of the middle of triangles, where aliasing is not considered to be an issue. (Edge detection can reduce this further by explicitly limiting the MSAA calculation to pixels whose samples involve multiple triangles, or triangles at multiple depths.) In the extreme case where each of the multi sample locations is covered by a different triangle, a different shading computation will be performed for each location and the results then combined to give the final pixel, and the result and computational expense are the same as in the equivalent supersampled image.

The shading calculation is not the only operation that must be performed on a given pixel; multisampling implementations may variously sample other operations such as visibility at different sampling levels.

Oh and this...

Conclusion
If you have played a Deus Ex game before, then you will feel right at home with Mankind Divided. For novice players several tutorials have been added to teach the sneaking and cover mechanics.

Graphics on ultra are stunning and definitely look 2016 thank to high-res, crisp textures. The game settings also offer lots of dials to adjust performance to your system's capability - and you'll need them. Performance is quite low across the board; even a GTX 1080 can barely handle Ultra 1080p, no way to run 4K. On AMD the game generally runs a lot better, but due to the lack of any AMD high-end option, you're not getting higher FPS than on GTX 1080. In our graphics cards reviews GTX 1060 conclusively beat RX 480 when looking at DirectX 11 titles, which Mankind Divided is, until the DX12 patch comes out in September. Here we see a different picture, with RX 480 being 10% faster than GTX 1060 in all our tests, even up to 20% in some cases. NVIDIA's previous generation GTX 980 Ti is barely faster than the RX 480, which is much slower than Fury X, even though Fury X has only 4 GB of VRAM.

Even though the settings dialog warns you that you should really have a card with at least 4 GB VRAM, as soon as you touch anything that looks demanding, memory usage in the game is not unreasonable considering that high-end cards today have 8 GB VRAM. In our testing, at Ultra 4K, we saw VRAM peak at 5.5 GB, but no card on the market today is able to deliver good framerates here. Once you dial down settings, memory usage goes down quickly, at high, 1920x1080 it didn't even surpass 2 GB, which is good news for cards like GTX 1060 3 GB and RX 480 4 GB.

oh and just a bit more..

I haven't had any issues with the game, running it completely maxed at 1440P (MSAA Disabled) and I'm averaging 52 fps which is fine. The game is visually really striking and without a doubt the best looking game of 2016 thus far.

It's a good port.

Cool, was waiting for your 2c. I know MSAA is a killer, and if anyone is trying to run it maxxed with MSAA 8x or even 16x is a fsking idiot. But yeah, glad to hear it's decent port and that people aren't having too many issues.

I saw a LOT of choppy gameplay videos, though I think it was more related to their recording devices or even streaming services.

It's been smooth as silk my side and a friend of mine is playing it on a MSI R9 390 and he is also running it perfectly smooth. I haven't personally encountered any issues or bugs and neither has he. It's a great game as well, the stealth mechanics are fantastic and the main hub city just oozes atmosphere. I can't wait to get properly stuck in over the weekend.

From what I saw on TB's video it doesn't look too bad.

And honestly, I never even noticed the lip syncing in HR.

I'm not having any issues, what bugs are you seeing?

Getting stuck in the aug screen, forcing a reload.
Stuttering that increases the longer you play and goes away upon restart.
Crashes.
Inconsistent audio volume.
Horrible mouse acceleration issues.
Movement getting 'stuck', making you drop off ledges or running into danger.

And this is just what I've encountered myself. The Steam forums are awash with more complaints. I would refund if I wasn't over the time limit already.

The Steam forums are also awash with this:

...despite people with 9xx series cards and 10xx series cards stating they're getting low frames with everything (including MSAA) set to Low or Off.

So expect this trend to continue. Honestly, this "my PC is fine so the game is fine" rubbish is what's likely going to drive me to quit PC gaming wholesale. Games release in worse and worse state and gamers just defend it more and more. It's not going to get better at this rate.

Are people not allowed to express its fine for them? or are people only allowed to complain about the game?
