Developer earns R550,000 per day, game ruined his life

Heard about this yesterday. It would appear that rampant success isn't for everyone"whistling:

I seriously doubt the income claim, as those figures are nothing more than speculation and estimates.

What I do think is going on, is the Internet itself that has caused this. Boogie2988 made a video on it, but as I'm on Tapatalk I can't really link it here. Just go to his channel and view it. It will give you a different perspective of how cruel and awful human beings are on the Internet.

This almost reminds me of Fez II where to dev also had a hissy fit :http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidth...oper-leaving-industry-after-twitter-flameout/

I have a simple solution for em dev's.

a) don't take it so personally, the internet turn people into dicks, its nothing personal they just like that.
b) Hire someone to be the 1st line of defense, when you hit success like this get someone to filter the crap

I know this personally as I am the 1st line of defense with our apps. Yes I get paid to read emails and ignore crap like this every day.

Nguyen then tweeted: “I can call ‘Flappy Bird’ is a success of mine. But it also ruins my simple life. So now I hate it.”

If the game earns you money and gives you some exposure, then what's the harm in it?

Really confused as to why this guy removed the game that is earning him money.

Maybe people in his community know that he's pulling in cash and keep rashing him for some or something. I dunno...does seem strange so I'm just throwing ideas out there.

Simple, he took the rants way to personally. If you seen some of the crap people say about apps you would totally understand.

The devs normally see the applications as their "children".

Ok, I should've phrased my post better.

What I meant was that it doesn't make much sense to me, but yeah people take stuff way too personally.

This actually reminds me a lot of the FEZ II dev incident.

Well he'll continue to make money from the ads on the app of those that already have it downloaded. Might even be a attention seeking PR move to increase demand.

Good point mate, and it would be a great way to try sell your app too.

He patched it just before he removed it to remove ads, so if you updated you have one that has no ads. Also if it was a PR move he would not have pulled all his apps. Only the game in question. Nope I recon he had enough and took insults way to personal.

Not the 1st time this has happened either. Seen other developers that had the same issues. They normally just leave the app on stores stating it will never be updated ever again. Its a plague that is growing, and people like him that is giving the kids their reward as they feel that they won.

Edit: Go watch Indie Game: The movie and you can see why people do this

Wasn't aware he'd removed his other apps too. Last I heard he was only removing Flappy Bird, so in that case I agree it was most likely not for publicity.

Wow, the vid certainly backs your view. As a developer myself I just can't really understand it though, but these guys are obviously very different to myself.

Didn't he yank it coz Nintendo was likely to sue for copyright infringement due to the "Mario Pipes"?

"Apparently" he couldn't take it anymore, don't understand the devs reasoning but its his game so he can do with it what he wants. Just seems silly to me to remove a large piece of income because you couldn't handle complaints well.

Hell, the threat of a big company lawsuit is something that can easily make someone's life very complicated and stressful.
