When Barry Ronge reviews a movie, does he get paid to do it? Then why shouldn't YouTube reviewers also get compensation from some source or another? That's all there is to it, really.

I don't think this is fair. The video generated revenue from the reviewers comments, no the video in the backround. If we took the video and the audio individually, which contributed more to the final product. Personally I feel if you are given a review license to a game that license includes the right to use visuals of the game to advertise the game. Maybe these reviewers need to option to include evidence of right of use with the video so google can determine if they had any right before deleting the video.

The other issue is that if he had the right to use the footage then what will happen to his lost income, who will pay for that? Can reviewers demand compensation for loss of income from devs abusing their right?

Don't assume this is anything other than it really is - an attempt at silencing critics. There are tons of other reviewers who also made money from their Garry's Incident videos, yet only TotalBiscuit was targeted. They had actually already given TotalBiscuit permission to review their game and monetize it prior to the removal.

The copyright infringement thing was merely an excuse the developers used to justify silencing one of the most influential YouTube critics out there. And it backfired spectacularly.

So, in related news.. if anyone needs cheap game developers, I'm guessing that the guys working for Wild Games Studio is sending out CV's left and right. If my CEO did things like this, I'd jump ship.

But, but but. I thought the idea was good but the implementation was utterly and totally useless.

Developer uses Silence*
*Silence misses*
TB uses Streisand Effect*
*It's SUPER effective*

Lol, be careful nintendo might go after you. :p

I've watched the video now and I must say that I do think the developer was disingenuous.

Thats the whole joke. The original video only got 600 000 view in 2 weeks before it got taken down. New one hit a million within a day also spread to other media like this forum, front page on Reddit and not to mention the games own forum on Steam

If dev kept his mouth shut, only 600 000 people would not have known and skipped it, now the entire world knows about it.

Noob mistakes like trying to build Rome in one day with toothpicks and only two thumbs shouldn't trash your career. (Applicable to the poor devs who laboured away in their offices)

Lol the game manufacturers just screwed them selves over at the end of the day most would call that poetic justice

well thats kinda messed up. Dont think anyone one would buy the game now ><

Thing is, if this game ever hits a price below... say 2bucks, I may be tempted to buy it just to see what all the fuss is about first hand. Maybe it's like a very bad B-movie: so bad it's actually funny.
