So, this game slipped under my malfunctioning radar but STEAM was kind of enough to taunt...enlighten me to this gem....

Devil Daggers.

This sums it up best!

World Record Devil Daggers Run

Damn, this game...its intense. You have to focus 100% on the game when playing, everything else takes a back, even time..which slips by unnoticed.
Its got this nice demo recording feature where you can watch other ppls fastest time. Plus all your friends times are listed each time you die...gotta beat them all!!
For a game with such a simple concept, its amazing....and only R55

It's incredible. Every time I have a little bit of time to kill (even if it's just between playing two other games) this is always what I load up.

Now you have no excuse not to get Devil Daggers, its included in this weeks pay what you want level at humblebundle. So you could pay R1 for the game.

I absolutely love Devil Daggers. I always play it if I have a few minutes to spare. My best time (achieved only last night) is 103.xxx seconds. I can highly recommend it, and at 1 USD in the humble bundle you can't pass it up.

This game is insane. I finally got my first time over a 100 seconds (103 something). Yeah it is gonna take a lot of practice to get to the magical 500 second mark.

We're probably very close in the rankings, my time is roughly the same :D

The world record Devil Daggers run is still under 15 minutes
And it isn't much longer than it was six months ago.

Devil Daggers remains an enigma. We were taken with its opaqueness when it was released back in February: you stand in an arena and fight waves of hell beats by shooting energy out of your hands, there's no plot, and most only survive a few seconds. Death means restarting. The idea that there might be more to Devil Daggers that we haven't seen because no one's survived long enough to see it is pretty compelling.

The leaderboards smartly include replays of the best runs so you can watch them for yourself—if, like me, you'll never survive longer than a minute—and we've been keeping track of the players' progress since Devil Daggers released. Back in March we posted an impressive 10 minute world record run.

Six months later, the world record isn't much longer—not that it isn't an impressive and hypnotic display of FPS skill. The current best run is 872.4143 seconds, a little over 14 and a half minutes, and was achieved by player Sojk a couple days ago (watch it above).

Devil Daggers is still being updated, with top-down replays and new enemies added just last week—enemies most of us will never see outside of a replay, of course.

Whew, okay I had a quick try. Got to 54 seconds in my second try and then my next 10 tries I couldn't beat it. :D

Will have a quick play again tomorrow. Not really my kind of game but I can see why people find it addictive.

So I succumbed to this thread and grabbed the $1 Humble Bundle last night. My first attempt only lasted a paltry 28 seconds because I didn't realise you had to hold the mouse button down for rapid fire. *facepalm*

Anyway my next few attempts went much better and it was pretty easy to get over 100 seconds and eventually reach my personal best of 150s:

I spent hours trying to beat it, eventually realising at 3am it wasn't going to happen and called it a morning. :p

Nicely done! I uninstalled the game. It's just too hectic for me.
