Diablo 2 - Ten years old today

On June 29, 2000, Diablo II hit store shelves. Let that sink in for just a bit... ten years! An entire decade ago, we first got our hands on the Barbarian, Necromancer, Sorceress, Amazon and Paladin on our way to invade Hell. The first Diablo was an amazing game, that's for sure. But the sequel kept the core gameplay that made the original so fun, and added in all manner of user-friendly features like the stash, and cranked the loot up to eleven with the addition of sockets. It all came together perfectly to make one of the best games of all time.

In the summer of 2000, I and many of my friends were in the heyday in our Everquest addiction. But when Diablo II hit, I actually stopped charm-kiting and froglok-camping long enough to play through it several times. We'd meet every night, looking for the best combinations of classes that would allow us to go ever deeper into the game. It was a glorious time, and one that I look back on fondly. I've gone back to the well of Diablo II goodness many times since then, and it holds its own compared to modern games every time. What are your favorite memories of Diablo II? Any cool co-op moments come to mind?

I remember telling my dad when it came out that the full installation was OVER 1GB!!!!!! He was like: "WTF!!!! " I was like: "Yeah man, it's crazy!!!!"

Ahh, the good old days. :D

I just remember fighting with my brother over who's turn it was to play and having hissy fits when he told me what to do! Still love the game. Need to get it again, mine game disappeared a while ago :(

I played this game pretty solid for 3 years and after all that I still reinstall it and jam it for a month or two every now and again.

Definitely in my top 10 games I've played. Bring on Diablo 3!

BT Games has it for R115 these days, but I'm sure you could get it cheaper if you look around.

For R115 I will get it next month :D

My budget has been worked out and hopefully my brother can source my logitech headset for me this month or else I will have to spend that cash on a couple of old games :D. Still need to find Quest for Glory again as well as a few other classics that got lost over the years.

Torchlight is the closest thing to Diablo, before that it was Titan Quest. I think I'll pick Diablo 2 and Lord of Destruction up again, I still have the original disks but they're in pretty bad shape due to over use.

Yeah Titan quest is still also a good game, I lost interest though, found some of the missions flippin impossibly hard.

For those that are interested, I lost my Diablo 2 CD's, but I had made a copy of my CD-Key's. You can hook up your Diablo 2 + Exp pack keys to your Battle.net account and then you can download the game files from Blizzard.

Saved me a re-purchase.

Why don't they sell this on steam? Every shop I've looked in doesn't have it or it costs too much.

I play Diablo2: LoD online locally on the twilight server. Well, I used to.. deleted as it sapped my lifeforce. lol. Addiction is a b!tch.

If anyone is looking for a nice filler until D3 comes out, try torchlight it gives a awesome feeling of D2.
Thanks for mentioning this. Torchlight definitely recreates the feel of the old Diablo games. Still looking forward to D3, but this is nice for now.

hehe me too! i still have the second highest barb on that sever (lvl 91 or 92, can't remember). his name is Beleg. gaze upon him and weep from his majesty!

lol! what's your char name(s)?

its a major flaw in that game's design for me. after a while character progression is only attained through grinding...

A funny thing happened to me a while ago.
I used to to love Diablo, but since having played a Bioware game or two, I find that it leaves something to be desired.

I shall still be giving the next installment in the series a look though: I may be pleasantly surprised.
