Diablo 3 - Major delays likely.

At this stage, I am feeling more optimistic about Grim Dawn - if THAT is ever released. An HD remake of Arcanum, however, would be sweet!

Well I don't know about you guys but I'll be playing Starcraft Ghost until they release this :)

Haha, so true.
Last I saw, Kalahari had it list for end of March release.

How do these changes == Major delays? As far as I can tell it's mostly balance things, quick changes that are probably already implemented in the beta..

Balance changes require several weeks or even months of testing to ensure that it really is balanced... And the same goes for every iteration, they won't get everything perfect on the first change...

I think there is a thin line when it comes to when a game should be announced. If its announced too late it won't have enough hype and might fail. If its announced too early the excitement gets too much and boils over into anger. I think Blizzard are starting to get on the wrong side of this scale with D3.

That's completely true (except for the months part), but it was also expected to happen in beta testing.. The current testing is exactly for this kind of thing, and should thus not affect the schedule that much. The point was that these changes weren't anything major in terms of development.

Blizzard are quite good at implementing balance changes and testing it by now, they have loads of experience in this.

I think that happened a year ago already. The average franchise game(BF, CoD, AC, ME, Gears) now takes around 2years to develop, those with bigger scopes at looking at around 4years. Diablo's been announced WITH game play videos for 4years, so you do the math on who long it must have been in development.

For me ONE year is the appropriate amount of time before release that you announce your game maybe 18months for a really big game, but FOUR years is just ridiculous.

Next time Blizz just need to STFU about their games and just let us known when they are done.

Totally agree MOnk. I'm so annoyed with Blizzard. One can only create hype for so long before it becomes annoying and ppl start to overlook it.

And they have been in a big downwards spiral imo. Just look @ Wow. Quality of the game is going down all the time.

I'm also scared that D3 will not be what we all hope it will. None of the legends behind what made D1 and D2 great is working on D3 and it lacks allot of core elements. And the fact that they changing so much all the time makes me feel they don't even know what they want or their end goal is, meaning their planning sux.

But I'll wait and see, hoping for the best.

yea its really been a long time, I mean also think about how much merch has been put out there for the game as well and there is no game yet! i mean to me that is just crazy. Hopefully not a dissapointment as ive been waiting for D3 for a LONG time like everybody else :D

I am excited, only if they bring this out for PS3. Otherwise this may end up being an expensive game :(

PvP removed for launch: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/4574895

So we've gone from delays to more delays all under the guise of "when it's done" to now just cutting features until they can make their Q2 release. How can all these features be not up to standard after so many years in development.

How about have the game, with PvP, with all the crafting Artisans, with pets and with death animation in 2011? No, oh well, whatever then.

I didn't know it was dramatic to lament a feature that was promised and is no longer going to be delivered on time. This is purely Blizzard's fault.

The golden rule of product development is to under promise and over deliver.

If you promise A, B, C and D and can only deliver A, B and C then you look like a tool. If you only promise A and B but then also deliver C then your customer feels like they have gotten something extra.

It's not like they just said "Hey we have this idea of PvP as an arena combat style and we'd like to get it in." and then came back and said "Oh it's not going to make release, we'll have to patch it later", that would have been fine but guys were already playing PvP invitationals 2years ago and Blizzcon. It just worries me that they couldn't finish a system they've had in place for over two years.

** Also as an aside there seems to be this growing 'thing' among some people that it is now cool to label anyone with a complaint about a game as a whiner or some such. Some complaints are legitimate but even so there is a distinct difference between whining and trying to hold a discussion. If you're only contribution is to make derogatory remarks then you should perhaps try and reform your thoughts in a more constructive manner.
