Console version of Diablo III and Reaper of Souls expansion also coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Blizzard has announced that the Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on August 19.

This version of the game, which includes both the original Diablo III and its recent expansion Reaper of Souls, had only previously been confirmed for a PS4 release. Xbox One and PS4 versions are expected to retail for $59.99, whereas Xbox 360 and PS3 will carry a more modest $39.99 price tag.

New in the Ultimate Evil Edition is an Apprentice mode that boosts the power of low-level players so they can play co-op alongside their high-level buddies, and a new in-game mail system that allows you to share loot with those on your friends list.

Blizzard adds that preorders and launch day copies of the game will come with the Infernal Pauldrons in-game item, which can be worn at level 1 and gives bonuses to health, life regeneration, and cooldown reduction. The pauldrons will not be able to transfer across platforms, however, but they can be transmogrified. So there's that, at least.

Those who own the previous console edition of Diablo III, for either Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, will be able to keep their characters in this new edition. PS3 characters can also be transferred to PS4, and Xbox 360 characters can make the jump to Xbox One.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls was released for PC and Mac back in March and, for the most part, has been favourably received by the community. You can read what GameSpot's own Carolyn Petit made of the expansion in her review.

Also just saw this... Guys are already asking if they have the original if their characters will carry over, and if the cant just buy the upgrade for a reduced price...

I have the PS3 version so I've missed out on Reaper of Souls, and I don't see myself buying this upgrade either. I enjoyed the game but not quite enough to want to purchase it again to get hold of the expansion... Would be nice if they allowed you to upgrade at a reduced price, but unfortunately Tomb Raider and the soon-to-be-released Last of Us PS4 versions have set this benchmark now so I suspect the trend will continue...

The Reaper of Souls Expansion for PC changed the game so drastically that it got me back into it, before it launched the last time i touched Diablo was 2012... I have been so impressed with the turnaround this game has seen its actually so awesome!

From what i can gather though, having not played the console version, the console version had non of the major problems the PC version had... so you probably wouldn't benefit as much as a PC gamer with the upgrade...

So there is no confirmation that if you have an existing PS3 version, that you can just buy the Reaper of Souls add-on? I don't want to re-buy the game, I just want the extra content. If this is the case then to hell with them. Pun intended.

i have XBOX version and was bummed that we got shafted by the Reaper of Souls. Happy to hear that there is more D3 goodness on the horizon :)

Yeah my sentiments exactly. Since this version is releasing on PS3 as well hopefully they will sell the expansion separately too and just haven't made the announcement yet. The least they could do is make it available via PSN.

I was actually gona say, the least they could do it make the upgrade available via the PSN and XBOX Live... It only makes sense to launch the game with expansion on PS4 and X-1 but they should give people on previous gen console the option...
