Diablo III - General Discussion Thread

D3 has an enormous amount of potential and barring a few issues it could have been the best game of all time. Unfortunately the always-online DRM is the biggest of these issues, especially coupled with their inability to host proper servers even 2 weeks after the launch date.

I had hoped that I'd anyone could pull off always on Internet thing it would be Blizzard. 2 weeks and there are still issues seems to be taking the piss though.

I still don't understand why anyone would actively want online-only. Blizzard could have offered us the exact same social experience while allowing us to host our own games thereby reducing our latency to something negligible. Then if the servers were offline you would only lose out on the social integration but you would still be able to enjoy the game.

For D3 specifically I think the main concern was for the AH & eventually the RMAH. Obviously Piracy plays a role as well (Before some senseless git starts berating me for blaming Piracy read the whole post please) even if doesn't work (Which I dont know, haven't seen any news on D3 being cracked) it wont stop companies from Trying it. Personally I dont care, I am always online anyways so yeah, I am also long past the point of raging because I can't play a specific game. Last night when D3 was down i simply fired up the xbox and played some Hitman Sniper Challenge followed by a bit of Borderlands.

For whatever reason the choice was made to have it always online the fact is, its been made. We have one of 2 options, play the game when its online or dont play it at all. A Choice everyone has to make for themselves.

It's easier for you because you are in Europe. But I still believe they could have added all of the features that present D3 has and future D3 might have and at the same time allowed personal game hosting play. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be able to run their same monitoring software on an external game.

If they expect us to be always online to play then it's fair for us to expect their servers to be always online when we want to play :)

Yeah, the fact that they have been rather quiet as to why the servers are so unstable worries me.

Im considering selling my copy and account :(
I don't get much time to game and when I do there is some issue.
2.6m Coins, lvl60 Barb and lvl 55 Demon hunter.
The barb has a set of gold find gear, I avg about 10k per minute in crypts with the gear.
The DH has full lvl 60 set waiting for him, roughly 60k dps. at the moment its sitting on 16.5k dps.

Should I sell or just be a good sheep? xD

For someone who do not game often you spent plenty of time levelling those char. , I would keep!

Eventually it will get better, so I wouldn't do anything drastic if I were you.

+1

My max level is a 50 monk that's still on nightmare and a 32 Witch Doctor on normal. Clearly you have "some" time to game Joker. :)

HTF don't you have time to play?

I have a lvl 35 WD and a lvl 17 Wizzard. I don't have time. You seem to be doing very well.

The end-game of D3 is just awful. It's basically Farmville. I say that not only because you will be farming all the time but because once RMAH is up, people with good gear will rather be selling their items for Euros rather than in game currency. The progression is painfully slow through Inferno. Now, that is not necessarily a bad thing, but in the case of Diablo 3 it is. Bashiok said in a blue post that the AH is used to factor in drop rates. So, basically, they are saying that if you want Inferno gear you need to use the AH because the items listed thereon account for the minuscule number Inferno capable items that have dropped for all players. I personally don't want to use the AH. If I wanted to be a commodities broker I would have studied Finance. At the moment I have spent easily 3million gold coins on the AH on items so that my Barbarian can manage Act 1 Inferno pretty easily (Act 2 is a whole new level of pain) and Bashiok still says that players are undervaluing gear on the AH. all that said, maybe I'm being a whiner. Maybe I'm just frustrated because I am not progressing fast enough and have become a bit jaded by the ease of most modern games. Hell, it took me way more than the 150-odd hours (unemployment is depressing, don't judge me) I've spent playing Diablo3 to get a fully decked out Diablo2 character (lvl 96). Maybe I just need to spend less time playing this game per day and also expect less progress per hour. However, I predict that the RMAH will completely revolutionize the game as it stands (which is not without flaws). I predict that the RMAH will really make end-game Diablo 3 a glorified facebook game with shiny shaders.

lol I game at night between 9pm and 3am, so roughly 6 hours a night.
Hence the reason the lack of sleep is now catching up xD Oh and there are ways to lvl up faster
Will share later :D

The normal difficulty is just way too easy, imo it should have been 20-50% harder. Started with nightmare last night and the fun factor sky-rocketed. Which is great.

But I'm depressed about the prospect of leveling each of my alts through normal (up to 15 hours each) :(

Normal is a 15+ tutorial. And while we may find it too easy Im sure alot of new fans or new gamers are glad for the low entry barrier. But yeah I wished there was an option to play on Nightmare from the word go.
