Diablo III - General Discussion Thread

And they should let you be able to play nightmare and skip normal when you beat the game on the first go. Normal is just Shit.

Yeah I'm really not psyched about having to play normal for all of my alts. Nightmare is were the fun begins.

Could always get someone to finish the game for you with your char and their high level char at very end ? Only way of skimping I know of...

Yep, sadly you aren't the only one. Several people are already selling accounts and I am seeing my colleagues also getting bored / tiring.

I think that's the problem with good story lines. They are awesome the first time but later on you just don't care.

The AH is really hurting the important part of the game IMO. Why would you try to grind and grind and grind for that improvement if you can just buy it on the AH? The post from Bashiok also comes to mind when he said the ingame loot was adjusted because the AH exists and they have to assume that you will be using the AH.

All of the launch issues, login errors and the always-online stuff will also just be a growing snowball.

Well thats how Diablo has always been. PPL tend to forget how D2 went. You could play for a year and never get the exact good gear you want. It was all down to trading if you played the legit way.
The serious Diablo fans will keep playing and farming, trading and playing the AH. Difference is in D2 ppl used unofficial sites.

That said thou, I also think the story line could have been allot better and longer.

Yes, but in Diablo 1 and 2 you had no other choice. Now you have the AH as escape hatch.

More importantly, in Diablo 1 and 2 the loot that dropped was more relevant to your level. Now they took the AH into account and assumed that you would be using the AH so most of the loot that drops for you is crap or is 10 levels below you.

That's one of my main gripes as well. Had a level appropriate item drop for me last night for the first time.

I got fed up with spending so much time and resources on trying to kill mobs, raising valor and finding garbage items. On top of that, wasting a load of gold and essence resources on crafting loads of shocking rare items that cost 70k gold (excl the rare level60 crafting resources and tomes required). I bought a dagger on the AH for 3k last night that was better than my current weapon. And to say I'm angry and pissed off with having to go to the AH would be an understatement. From now I've just got to try and embrace the AH and play the game as though it's Diablo 3 and not Diablo 2. Unfortunately that means half the fun in fighting mobs, but it's not fun fighting them when they're really difficult and drop lots of crap. (Yes it's a nice challenge at times, but not enjoyable when you're still so weak after grinding for so long)

I played D2 more times than I could possibly remember and it never got boring, because you always felt you could go to any part of the map and be wonderfully surprised (and I did loads of grinding in D2). I felt like I flushed the whole game down the toilet by going to the AH.

Ouch... can't say I didn't expect it though. D3 has become more about gold farming than about item farming. And if you can't afford to farm for gold, then they introduce the RMAH!

Well when I look at howlongtobeat.com and I check Diablo 2 (original) under Main Quest + Additional stuff I see it has an average of 32.5hrs, I finished D3 doing everything in 18hrs. Even looking at Main story, D2 has an average of 24hrs, I finished D3 main story in 11hrs.

That may not seem terribly important until you consider that to get the same gameplay hours as finishing D2 on two difficulties I have to finish D3 four times. Which means I have to see the same content four times over.

Then when you look at loot diversity, D3 you play the whole game only ever using two qualities of items, if you are really lucky you might find a legendary you can actually use. D2 you finish the game with a mixture of magical, rare, unique and set items, along with a bunch of charms.

I'm actually thinking of playing through Diablo 2 again just to get a fresh comparison just to make sure it's not all nostalgia.

I have to admit, Blizzard really screwed the pooch with this RMAH. Honestly, we should have seen it coming though.

We all thought it would be an additional way for players to get that elusive last item that forms part of a set, but now it seems that it's actually more or less the only way in which to get good equipment.

I've been playing the game for 15 hours now, and I've had only two rare item drops, neither of which my character could actually use. At level 18, I'm also still using white items in some of my equipment slots.

As much as I love the game, this really pisses me off. Blizzard is trying to force people to make use of the RMAH, and the game suffers for it.

ya and it gets worse as you go on. now i find/get items that give like one stat a lot and not enough of the others.

I just sell all that crap that drops then buy something in the auction house that fits my "build" whenever I can afford it and try to spread my gold among the various items. You don't really need the "best" gear to play the game up to hell.

I normally try and see how far I can get with my outdated gear before I even touch the Auction House. Once you got one high level character that can make gold, your alts are in for a easy time.

Also who needs legendary items with dozen of stats which can run up to millions, when a blue and yellow item has the most important stats already?

Where did you get that info? It's not on the eu.battle.net home page.

Ah nm I found it on the forum. 1 - 7PM PDT = 10PM tonight until 4AM tomorrow morning SA time.

Patch highlights
- Damaged items can now be sold on the auction house
- No change to the annoying general chat.
- When logging into Diablo III, the "Cancel" button which appears in the login checkbox will now be grayed out for 30 seconds after a Battle.net account name and password are entered. This is to reduce server load during the login process. (because that was the problem right?)

After Spending almost 100K in the AH & a major overhaul of my play style my Barb can now Solo Nightmare, still challenging but not nearly as ridiculous as before.

This is with just battle rage on and Max fury. If I throw up Berserker it shoots up to almost 4K for 15 seconds. So my now strategy is keep fury at max, battlerage, throw up ignore pain when I see blues or Leets and if I do see elites Berserker goes up and I try and kill it before that 15 second run out. Managed the butcher after 3 tries, and Magda after 2.
