DICE elaborates on Battlefield 3 vehicle combat

Amg man, this is going to be so epic. Deep gameplay ftw!! I didn't even think they could make it better than it already was in all their games.

Self repairing tanks!!!!!????

They are really dumbing this game down for the masses.

I really want to be excited, but I will wait for the demo/beta before I commit.

I just hope they make it easy enough for ground forces to take out the air support vehicles. At the moment in Bad Company 2 it's near impossible. You tag the dude's chopper (an amazing feat in itself) and then he simply cancels it with some flares. You then, by some miracle, tag him again with a tracer dart and he just hits the flares again! lol They should make the reload time on flares a lot longer, that's for sure.

30 sec cooldown, more than once i'd been shot down whilst the flares are recharging, also the other day my clan mates found that if you let one dude drat the air support and the other dude already aiming at the heli with the rpg/gustav you can actually lockon before the dude hits flares, remember once you have the lock and shoot and the pilot hits flares, its too late, i have seen this, i can verify it, with abit of practice tho, its easy taking down air support with the laser guided at4, you only really have problems with very exp pilots, but with enough effort anybody can be taken down.....

Hmm, nee dude. I think it's better that way. No people will be forced to work as a team. The vechiles don't regen when it's under fire which will force people to work for the kill instead of just sitting there watching a tank take out your whole team. Also, they say it only regens up until a certain point. They know how to balance a game. I'm pretty sure they'll get it right.

Have you even seen the VADS and the AA gun in BC2? One hit from any of those two and the chopper sommer lose control. Which I pretty much HATE as a chopper pilot. There won't be tracer darts in BF3 though. They're lame anyway. There will however be AA rocket launchers and plenty of AA vehicles, not to mention the air vehicles will ALSO have AA weapons. I'd also say leave the balancing of the game up to the developers. They have done this for more than 10 years now, afterall. I'm pretty sure they will be open to criticism after the BETA as well.

Hoozah! And I thought they couldn't make BF3 anymore awesome. A wide array of tools at our disposal and self-repair as a bonus. That is gonna make my life as an engineer a bit more bearable since I don't have to stick with a tank when things get real down and dirty.

Customization also seems quite nifty. Adds a bit of spice to team tactics. Anyone know if DICE has discussed the possibilities for customization more in-depth? (Doubt it since they will probs want to see us to see for ourselves, but I shall nevertheless probs google it later)

Dude the helis in bfbc2 was not really balanced on most maps hey. Unless its the lag its hectic to kill a damn heli. I for one would say no vehicle repairs period.

Lol 5 mins of glory during a game then no more vehicles till all is reset? I think not .-. Vehicles play an integral role. And with the right TEAM tactics no vehicle stands a chance. You do however have to either bait the hook or play kamikaze, but that is what makes it all so fun

Honestly, you want to tell your children that daddy was a tank-whoring, flag capping bad MF with a self-repairing tank!?

Lol.

Anyway, this is not suppose to BF:BC2, its suppose to follow BF2.

In BF2 I was the Engineer, a class that required big cahoonas, you had small weapons and little ammo, particular the MP-7, friendlies would always drive over your mines with a car full of orphans because they are blind and do see the red skull, you would repair a tank in the middle of a battle only to have the tank drive either over you, or away leaving you facing the enemy with a spanner in the hand.

The AA was also inadequate in BF2. An aircraft could lock onto you sitting in the AA long before you could acquire lock on, even though you have a visual. This resulted in jumping into the AA and out of the AA like crazy. Also you had to fire 3 missiles at the aircraft to kill it, the stationary AA only fired 2 shots at a time.

But when you manage to bring down a pesky jet, that feeling was better than napalm in the morning.

These were the moments that defined BF2 for me, and being the old softy that I am, I would have loved to experience it again.

Right now, I am waiting for the beta, I just want to see whether they can capture the feeling BF2 generated or will it be more of a COD clone with vehicles.

Dude, screw tracers.
After just 2 days of practice i got pretty friggin good with the handguided missiles!

Still took me around 5 or 6 rockets to get SkyRambo to eat the dirt, but still - was getting better every single time.
No other saffer gave me any problems with handguided missiles though... just that damn SkyMonkey... I mean Rambo... ass...
