DICE: PC Gamers get ''the shaft'' too often

Now, the reasons the PC platform are getting seemingly “better” features in the game are a result of DICE ignoring the PC user base for the past 3-4 years and this is a homage to the PC platform, and also because it’s a lot of things that PC users simply deserve. If you have played games on the PC for the last ten years you would know what I’m talking about, otherwise I won’t even try to explain... Also, k1ll8 saurav is completely correct about the difference of player’s between PC and consoles, and dedicated servers for PC’s are a must for any game like this on a PC platform, so don’t take it the wrong way. I don’t know DICE’s stance on clan support for the console version at this time, they have been back and forth on the topic and I don’t know why. If I find out I’ll let you know

Regarding player count on the pc…PC’s for obvious reason have much more powerful tech, thus allowing much more flexibility with things such as increased player count, so it would be flat out stupid to not take advantage of this and make the game more worthy of being on the PC instead of a direct port from a console version. You may say that this isn’t fair, but it really is and everything balances out (hey, we don’t get a slick Xbox LIVE interface and if I wanted that then I should play the xbox version). If you wanted a more powerful game, you should have bought a more powerful platform, plain and simple.

I must say I like their attitude. I'm Getting BC2 for sure. :)

I love how everyone denounces Infinity Ward and Activision for abandoning their PC gamers, being fascist corporate pigs, etc., but nobody sees DICE's timely bit of PR as an obvious cash-in to prevailing negative sentiments. It's all business, kids.

Yep it is all business and right now DICE's business is far more accommodating than Activision/ IW's. Activision can take a tip or two from EA. It was not long ago that EA started garnering a rep similar to what Activision is currently at. They made a point of it to improve relations with gamers and two end results were games like Mirrors Edge and Dead Space. Bobby needs to look at his rivals past mistakes and use it.

First thing that popped into my mind.

Suz Tzu Said: When you Enemy is in Chaos take him.

Thats what dice/EA are doing. They main competition is in chaos due to a communication failure, capitalize on this properly and you could win the battle before it even starts.

If i was some of these other companies i would bring back games that where delayed due to them thinking MW2 was going to cast the huge shadow. Right now the market for top selling holiday season game is wide open.

Same here. Dice are frikkin awesome.

Will people play bc2 online in this country

While I do enjoy the BF franchise, BF2 was a hit and miss affair for me....... as in the hit detection....... which was horrendous........ utterly UTTERLY...... horrendous.

Other than that it was a fun game. Played the rAge comp 3 times. Great value for money over the last four or five years. But it's old, seriously old. To the point where I can't be bothered anymore.

If BC2 is like normal BF2 with COD4 ranking and COD4 hit detection....... count me in.

Yip, blatantly obvious that. Got to give it to them tho.... very good business sense.

So listening to your customers is a bad thing? O...K....

I didn't say it's a bad thing at all. On the contrary, it's good business. But it's still business.

I think you kinda missed my point, Etiko. Sense of humour failure?

It's business which keeps the customer though.

I couldn't care if game devs are all two bit money grubbing whores, as long as they still make quality products. :)

Plus the fact that Dice have good support on their products. Yeah the patches are Huge, but check. BF2 was released in 2005, and yet patches kept on rolling out now till 2009. Yeah sure most will see this as 4-5 years of problems then. BUT......

I see this as 4-5 years of listening to customers and trying to fix their game. If they didn't give a Damn they would never have continued with allmost 5 years of support. Coupled with what they have been saying now, it does show they care. On the one hand one might think they are playing on our feelings now as we are surely sore after the IW ordeal , and they are capitalizing, while on the other one might think they are seriously just recognizing the needs of the PC gamer, which infact, they are.
Clever marketing this, as it's only really with MW2 that we don't have dedi servers,(along with some other less important titles like Flashpoint 2, but thats a different story) most ppl don't see this. Dice saw the gap and are now playing the good guys. But in the end it's win-win. They get our money, we get a brilliant low ping DEDICATED SERVER based Multiplayer experience :D

wait, what?

Obviously it's all business - in fact CoD is probably more popular now than it has ever been. Clever publishers maybe?

DICE would be silly NOT to capitalize on Activision/Infinity Ward's moment of weakness in the PC market. At least they seem to know what we want.

Good article. +1 to Etiko :)
