Did You Know?

Welcome to the gaming "Did You Know?" thread. It is here that you can share the random interesting things you know about games that are not common knowledge.

To start off with please only share the little known facts about games that you personally have discovered rather than searching the internet for little known facts - it will be interesting to see how much gaming trivia knowledge the MyGaming forumites possess.

To start off. Did you know in Illusion Softworks Mafia there is a alternate way to kill off rival Mob Boss Don Morello? Most players would have had the car chase lead to the airport where Morello hops in a plane and tries to make his escape - you stop him with a Tommy Gun and shoot out the engines which results in a climatic explosion.
BUT the first time I played this mission Morello's getaway car drove out into the countryside. Up ahead there is a bridge under construction and Morello's driver only just manages to stop on the edge. Tommy then shoves the car over the edge and Morello goes plummeting to his end.

I remember this ending clearly and so I was surprised when replaying the game to find myself at the airport shooting down his plane. Had I imagined the alternate end? Fortunately I'm not crazy - I found proof of this easter egg in the game:

Wow, I actually ONLY knew about the bridge ending, didn't know there was an airport one. :wtf:

I can remember finding this on my second playthrough of Deus Ex. Not sure how well known it is, but anyway.

At Morgan Everett's home, right at the end of the mission where you climb on the chopper to end the mission, there is a Odd Mechanic. If you talk to him, then go talk to Everett, Everett orders you to kill the mechanic because he is an imposter. You can either kill him or knock him unconscious. When you then talk to Jock (chopper pilot) he will discover a bomb and defuse it.

If you don't discover the Odd Mechanic (and consequesntly the bomb) Jock will die later on in the game.

In my first playthrough of the game I just went straight to the chopper, not looking around, so Jock died :(

The bad thing is.... I WANT TO DO IT!

I have yet to get the phantom bow, still need to finish off some jet kills which I struggle with to get the assignments done, and then there's finding all the tags, and then I would still need to find 3 other people who've done the whole lot. Big missions...

That was the cool thing about Deus Ex, there were loads of things that would change depending on what you did or didn't do, who you talked to, how you spoke to certain people, if you preferred lethal or non-lethal takedowns etc. I think a lot of thought went into that game.

This is probably the most elaborate Easter egg i have ever seen!

Holy crap that's a complicated easter egg

The bad thing is.... I WANT TO DO IT!
one of my mates did it and is now helping the rest of the clan to get it as well. He's got a whole system setup to do it as quick as possible.

you can just pick up the Bow now. It's in a crate on one of the maps (I forget which one)

It's on Operation Outbreak, but you don't get to keep it there do you? It's just a pick-up in the round as far as I know.

Time for a replay - once you get over the ancient Direct X 8.1 graphics it's still holds up in terms of character and story. That may be nostalgia speaking though, I know I am very biased when it comes to this game.

OT: Did you know, if you pick up a woman and hold her next to your ear like a seashell, you can hear her scream :D

Too bad there is no legitimate way to get the game anymore.

Yup, the dewd meister is correct, its a permanent unlock...but not something I play with....thats partly why I didnt bother with the whole unlock thing...

Yeah it's great that it's 1 hit kill, bit the range is kak and the "charge time" makes it unpractical
