Dishonored review and opinion roundup

It's looking really good, can't wait for Friday; love me a game that gives me the power to decide how I want to tackle an objective with no "optimum" way of doing it (looking at you Dues Ex: HR).

I actually read a interview with the one designer who referenced Dues Ex's now infamous boss fights as one of the reasons they didn't include anything similar in this. Which I am super happy about.

A bit apprehensive about the fact that it's apparently rather short, but otherwise it sounds good so far. As an avid lover of the Thief series, this sounds like it just might be the thing to tide me over until Eidos starts talking Thief 4 again.

This worried me also, heard one reviewer clocked it in 6 hours. I read that to get the full no kill, ghost rating, full exploration it could take as much as 20 hours. Also I've heard there is alot of replay value which should help if the campaign turns out to be a bit on the short side.

Much preferred human revolution. This game lacks the polish, and then there's story.... :vomit: Pretty forgettable game play as well. How did it get such a good metacritic score? Where these guys paid for that?

LOL what? Great game IMO

It also has boss battles that break the game and completely void any pretence of player choice.

IMHO this is a strong contender for Game of the Year.

Eh, I wouldn't say it was a bad game, and part of me thinks the gameplay itself is a lot better than HR, but it's definitely not my contender for game of the year. The gameplay was really well done, but it's brought down by a forgettable story, forgettable characters and pretty bland level design and some dubious design decisions, such as pretty much removing side-quests after the second mission.

If Dishonored's gameplay was complemented by some better level design, for one, it might have been contender for game of the year in my book.

I agree that the characters where lame, story was horrible. I just didn't feel immersed at all. At least deus ex could provide that for me. Everything about dishonored is just meh. The gameplay does nothing to save it IMHO.

Ahem:

I don't mind a short game if it has a lot of replay value, and from what I've heard about this game, it does. I think I'll be picking this up for December as well.

Eh, I'd say that's very debatable. Most of the replay value would have to come from the way in which you get to your target, which isn't all that much replayability, if you ask me, as most of it is either going to be you sneak through, or you kill people. Most of the actual objectives usually have one or two ways to do them, a lethal way and a non-lethal way, and most of the secondary objectives are either you do them, or you don't.

That's not to say the game doesn't have replay value, but it's pretty much just a step above linear games. DE:HR had a lot more replay value than this.

The only reason I haven't picked this up yet, is that between Guild Wars 2, Baorderlands 2 and Darksiders 2, I have not time at all for other games.
