Disney child star Lee Thompson Young found dead at 29

US actor Lee Thompson Young, a former Disney child star, has been found dead at the age of 29.

Police in North Hollywood have not given an official cause of death, but Young's manager, Paul Baruch, said the actor "tragically took his own life".

Young rose to fame in the Disney series The Famous Jett Jackson, where he played a teenage secret agent.

More recently he portrayed a Boston police detective in the series Rizzoli & Isles.

"Lee was more than just a brilliant young actor, he was a wonderful and gentle soul who will be truly missed," Baruch said.

"We ask that you please respect the privacy of his family and friends as this very difficult time."

The actor's body was found at his home by police on Monday morning after he failed to show up for work on Rizzoli & Isles, where he played Barry Frost, a bright but squeamish police detective.
'Cherished and remembered'

The show, which also stars The Sopranos actress Lorraine Bracco, has just been commissioned for another series.

"We are beyond heartbroken at the loss of this sweet, gentle, good-hearted, intelligent man," series producer Janet Tamaro said in a joint statement with the TNT network and Warner Bros.

"Lee will be cherished and remembered by all who knew and loved him, both on and off screen, for his positive energy, infectious smile and soulful grace,"

The actor was born in South Carolina in 1984 and moved to New York aged 12, where he landed the lead role in The Famous Jett Jackson.

The Disney series, which ran for three series and was turned into a movie, was eventually cancelled in 2001.

Young went on to start opposite Billy Bob Thornton in the sports movie Friday Night Lights and Jamie Foxx in the made-for-TV movie Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story.

In 2009, he guest-starred in the TV series Scrubs and he played a sensitive FBI agent in FlashForward.

Young also starred in the music video for the Sugababes single About A Girl.

Actor Donald Faison, who played Dr Chris Turk in Scrubs, lead tributes on Twitter saying: "This breaks my heart."

Singer Solange Knowles added: "Very very sad to hear about Lee Thompson Young. He was always very kind, and such a light."

If it was suicide then he was most likely under too much stress.

Personally i think the hiring of child stars should be made illegal until they get to an age where they know whats going on and what they are getting themselves into.
 
Also saw this report yesterday on another site, never really saw this guy, but still makes you think what is going through the lives of the rich and famous, grass not always greener and all. . .
 
A lot of child stars end up dead or very fucked up. Either drugs or depression and stress.
 
This is actually sad news, I watch Rizolli and Isles and he is one of my favourite characters in the show.

To be honest I can't think of anything worse than being rich and famous...A life with no privacy... I would not be able to live like that.

It is a cult. All popular culture is a cult. But really these celebrities are given to much as it is. People would rather be sad about him dying than the war thats going on in the middle east. Sad how shallow people are. There is so much shit happening.
 
I was never really familiar with my as an actor, but I had seen him a few times before.
It's sad though, for one to take their own like that. Happens to the best of us.

Personally i don't really care for celebrities all that much (the stupid ones),they are after all just normal people.

What would you do if every death of person was recorded and published in a newspaper?,Would be impossible to comment or care about all their deaths.

No I am not saying that. But half of the shit thats going on out there is not even reported. Do you know the full extent of syria? or the current affairs in Afghan. Did you know there is a new tour in 2014.

I figure it's because many people recognise him and feel some form of shock to hear that someone they recognise has died.

Hearing about some largely unknown person dying evokes a sense of apathy and indifference.

When you say "slightly" known, you're talking about millions of people who watch(ed) the shows he played in. That means that there are more than enough people who are interested in finding out about his passing for it to be newsworthy.

Even for us unknowns, there are simple obituaries written by loved ones who, to probably only a handful, it would be interesting.

Nope,i don't really read news.

I saw plenty of taxi accidents with bodies all over the road either dead or in pain,nothing in the news the next day or in the week because it happens so bloody often.

We have enough shit SA to actually worry about.

Well there is plenty to do. I am not saying fight a war. People need to put there foot down in this country. I've tried but there isn't enough of us who cares. Thats why governments do what they do bec the people allow them to do it.
