Divinity 2 - The Dragon Knight Saga

Hey guys, Just wanted to let you know about this game.

I saw a friend playing the "original" Divinity 2 - Ego Draconis, which appeared quite buggy and unfinished, but the guys at Larian Studios have really reworked this game and I am enjoying it immensely.

In a lot of ways it IS a generic RPG in terms of skill selection, stats etc etc. But what really separates this game from the rest of the heard is a really excellent story-line, witty dialogue, really interesting and varied puzzles (that you can actually solve), a great combat system which is really responsive and and intense and of course the ability to turn into a dragon in the later stages of the game.

There's also stacks of looting, item sets, alchemy, enchanting, potion making and the ability to own your very own Battle Tower, with minions to do your bidding.

I think you can pick this up on Zaps in the next couple of days.

If you hear people say this is a buggy game, they are referring to Ego Draconis. They have done a marvelous job ironing out the glitches. After about 15hours of play I have encountered maybe one "bug" which actually helped me get passed a really tough boss!

I give it a 9/10. The game engine isn't the most beautiful I've seen, and this is about the only bit of the game which isn't great. Then again it will probably run on most systems and has even got a setting to optimise it for those with single cores.
(oh, also the death animation is horrible, it makes me want to throw my computer out the window, it's like they're mocking you for dying....AAARRRGH)

I played Ego Draconis and I love it to death. Couldn't stop playing it for a long time, one of the better RPG's I have played in a while. The story is great, combat is excellent and I love how the skills system works, the game really allows you to shape your character exactly how you want him to be. The game's ending is just plain bullshit, never before have I been so pissed off upon finishing a game. The ending does fit in with the game, but it's still bullshit. Another thing that pissed me off was that the game was never specific about what you are actually supposed to do to complete your quests. Even after I got my hands on a walkthrough I still struggled to figure out where I was supposed to go and what I was supposed to do.

@Fivel: I enjoyed this a lot more than Dragon Age. Sure, Dragon Age has better production values and what not, but IMO Divinity is much better.

Obviously, like Wlad said, if you compare BIOWARE vs LARIAN the production values are much less.

BUT, Divinity is a much more immersive experience. The game has a way of drawing you and leaving you looking at the clock and realising you've been playing for like 5hours. Also the combat is much more intense, and leaves your heart racing and sweat dripping off your face! You get a massive sense of achievement after competing some puzzles or killing a difficult boss.

Dragon Age was too clinical. It was a great game, but I thought the combat was a little stale. Also quite easy. Divinity will provide you with a level of difficulty that'll keep you coming back. It also punishes poor skill choices, so don't waste skills!

Wlad is right in that the quests can sometimes be difficult to navigate. There is rarely waypoint markers, and you need to pay attention to the little details. But I am a very thorough RPG'er so it suits me fine!

I hope you grab it and love it as much as I do!

Thanks Cobalt, I'll add it to my wishlist. Is it a hardcore RPG (ie Gothic etc) or is it fairly accessible?

The combat system isn't that great. The AI is still buggy and you'll see some NPC's pop out of nowhere or just remain invisible but you can still attack them. It's still fun but they could've made some other awesome improvements. For one, you can't block. I hate this. o.o I had a fat shield in the beginning of the game and was wondering "how the hell do I block?" But anyways, switched to dual weapons (which is pretty badass) and just steamroll the place down.

Other than that, it IS an awesome game. Played it for 2 days straight, still not finished but I'm still hooked.
