Everyone know what DKP is? In MMOs people get points for every boss they kill, like, say you kill a WoW boss and get 10 DKP or something. It measures how active people are in the guild. Based on that, you can spend DKP for items.

Just some background (for those who don't catch the funny part of the vid)

DKP = Dragon Kill Points

How it works is:

If you kill a boss and 4 items drop...

You are allowed to bid a maximum of 150DKP on an item you want, but generally start off low. If someone else wants it too, the bidding will go from 10 up to the max amount that someone is willing to / or able to afford.

DKP is like money...you pay for the item you want, highest bidder gets it. But you don't pay the boss - since you killed him. So if you were in a 10man group and you bid 40DKP on an item, every person in the group gets a 10% share (= 4DKP) of the DKP you spent.. even YOU. So you bid 40, but only lose 36.

DKP also has a credit rating, you can have 0DKP to your name and still bid. However you're capped at -150DKP, so if I have 100DKP to my name and you have 0DKP - and we both bid 150DKP on an item, I will get it, since I have a better credit rating with the bank than you.

It's a very fair way of distributing loot - as you save you DKP for that special item you've been wanting for. Also, when you help kill a boss and nothing drops for you, you still earn DKP whenever anyone else bids on the items that dropped.

You've got a much larger chance of winning the item, but if you roll a 3 and I roll a 4, I would get it... the number rolled gets deducted off your dkp amount

Interesting way of doing it... increasing your odds, that is.

i.e. /roll 1-500 vs /roll 1-10.

The problem with that is this:

Say you want 2 items in the entire raid ... a marginal upgrade ring and [Sword of a Thousand Noobs] , you roll /roll 1-500 and hit 499 on the ring. Then you have nothing left for the sword.

Or ... you save everything and miss out on cool rolls in hopes of rolling on the sword, which never drops.

Or... you never roll on anything, you save up 1000dkp for THAT sword, and you end up rolling 5 vs a noob who can only roll 1-6 and wins it on 6.

I prefer the betting system. Either play it purely by luck of the roll, (1-100) or not at all.

The nice thing is, if you save all your hard earned raiding time (DKP points) for THAT one item, you're almost guaranteed to get it...but then you're out of DKP again and have to work it up. So you wont have 1 guy outbidding everyone all the time.

The more you bid, the more DKP your raid gets.
 
Im thinking what the chica said. If i wanted to be nice ill do it in real life. Guess thats why i dont play mmo's yet. Going to try out Eve at somepoint this month.

:p Miss Dixie, DKP was introduced BECAUSE people kept grabbing stuff and running like in Zimbabwe.

I still have that famous Garr video where a rogue ninja looted 3 t1 and a few bop epics, left the guild, joined a new guild and hs'd out all while still on vent :p

Then along comes skippy who hasn't put in ANY effort or help into getting as far as the team did in the raid, then after weeks of killing the hectic boss with a 5% drop rate on an awesome item ... finally it drops ... the item you've worked so hard for , only to lose it to skippy on an "unlucky" roll.

DKP rewards those who put the time in. Yes, this means those who raid most will get the best gear - but WoW isn't a charity. You reap what you sew.

Erm, 1-5 chance = 20%

1-1000 chance = 0.1%

I hear what you're saying, but I've had characteristically bad luck when it came to rolls.

Why should a new guy get to roll on the TOP items anyway? It's not like the top raiders will roll on every item, just the good stuff they've been waiting for.

When we still did normal rolls in guild raids, we had a rule...

All the new guys could roll on anything - 1 item per boss if it's a contested drop. However, if a Tier token would drop, then the "veterans" who can't upgrade anything BUT those tokens, get preference. Since they help MOST with the fights but won't benefit from most of the loot.
