Do you care about who you're shooting in games?

Tincan

The grammar Nazi inside of me is cringing at the title ... make a plan boet!

Generally I don't care who or what I shoot at as long as I get to shoot and kill something. But sometimes what I'm shooting at is getting to become boring, Sometimes I feelike shooting some 'Maricons and Brits instead of Tojo, Jerry, Charlie.

As far as WW2 games go, there are only two games I know of that you can play as the germans in the single player, and both are RTS games, Axis and Allies, and Company of Heros: Opposing Fronts. But I wanna see that in a shooter or at the very least a more emersive genre.

Awesome Article Azi.

This has been the staple for so long that most of us over look it. The good guyz win and the bad guyz are dead. Think about every James Bond Movie you've ever seen, with the possible exeption of the last 2. Bond kills the bad guyz and gets the girl. Newer movies are breaking away from this, The Green Zone has other american's being the "evil" bad guyz.

I honestly don't care who I am playing as long as the storyline is decent enough. Like the mission in CoD MW2 where you are playing as a "terrorist" loved it

Hmmm, interesting read.

I honestly don't really care what or who I am shooting. Its a game, a means of Entertainment or in Simple plain English: FUN :D
If people are stupid enough to take what they get in Games/Forms of Entertainment as too who the "goodies" & "baddies" are respectively or the current state of affairs is , they should be shot to conserve and save that precious Oxygen for someone who can actually think for themselves.

comes down to one simple question imho

if you buy a game do you buy it blindly and not know what type of entertainment you are getting yourself into and then ZOMG i'm shooting X here and it's Y.

makes me think about those who cry about games like rapeplay, but then in the same breath go on how cool it is to sex, kill, maime, torture and so on in another title. there is no differance in shooting down digitital representation of a todler or a zombie for that matter. it's a representation not real thing.

this also brings a bit to mind that gamers these days are spoilt bratz who some it seems want to dictate what others should be, what others should play and how others should conduct themselves. no one is forcing you to pickup a title and play, period. you yourself are moving that mouse around in your choice of title.

what's next, should we care what we drink ingame ?.

It would be great to get a really awesome sci-fi shooter these days. I am tired of shooting normal soldiers and "terrorists". I want mutantsand space men

Well, I do think it's worth thinking about in the case of politicised games, most particularly shooters. Is there a political agenda at play here? Are games like Modern Warfare and Medal of Honor vehicles for propaganda? Don't be so quick to dismiss what's in your face.

If they're going to use say the Taliban in a FPS then they should accurately portray them. So missions should involve shooting up schools, beheading girls, throwing acid into the faces of woman and suicide bombing hospitals etc

If that's what some people get off on so be it.....

Yeah. And remember to include USMC missions where soldiers rape their female comrades, who are consequently shamed into silence.

You get to be terrorists in cs, and Nazis in wolfenstein. I don`t see the big deal with being able to play Taliban in cod.

Oh I'm sorry I forget it's USMC policy for their soldiers to rape female soldiers

My point, Mr Kneejerk Reaction, is that shit happens in war. There's no such thing as hermetically sealed concepts of "good" and "evil".

No what you did was a poor attempt at moral equivalence.

Taliban are evil. No reasonable individual can argue otherwise. Same goes for nazis and communists.

so we rather need games where the play have the option to

1) make love
2) make war

the thing is what i get is that some get title X and then are shit surprised about what is going on in it. are they blind ? or just too stupid not to figure out what the title was about ?

propaganda machine is well versed, we get in religion, in the news, in the schools, on this forum practically in mcdonnalds tomato suace. about everything is tainted for some form of message or motive.

You must know that the Americans are "good guys".
