Thanks to the SSD, my rig shuts down and boots up so fast that I've taken to switching it off when I'm not using it (or downloading).

Not particularly a fan of leaving it on all day when I'm not there, just thanks to the power usage :p

I had an SSD in mu laptop, and I must admit that i used to turn it off all the time as it was so quick, but now i just leave it on... My SSD is dead... or dying... IT just keeps freezing, even if i try use it as an external... Not ideal since its only 2 years old...

Mine runs 24/7. I use a UPS for clean power but not sustainability and have a proper reboot after a good system clean or similar every now and then.

Did you torrent or download a lot on it? That's a real killer for SSDs.

It's basically the Write & Erase operations that ultimately kill it, have a look at http://us.hardware.info/reviews/4178/hardwareinfo-tests-lifespan-of-samsung-ssd-840-250gb-tlc-ssd-updated-with-final-conclusion where they tested an SSD until it broke together with all their findings, etc...
Nice link there. Seems they're pretty bullet proof for their lifespan though from their conclusion?

23years+ of hard use before it should start showing signs of issues.

Yeah, I just wish that some of the features that enterprise SANs have can start filtering through to the desktop. Single Instance Storage/Deduplication is the one I would most like to see.
