Do you suffer from gamer burnout?

every once in a blue moon, i go through a phase where im just tired of games and gaming. i spend some time wondering whether gaming is just a waste of time and whether i should be doing something more productive with my life. but then i finish up in the toilet, flush the chain, and boot up my xbox :->

I find that this happens to me when I am eagerly anticipating a title that is due to come out soon. It happened to me when I was waiting for Heroes VI. The game looked awesome and no other game would impress me enough to sustain my desire for that game enough to impress me to pull me away from my longing for that game.

well It seems that I am suffering as well , I stopped playing for a week and half ,
Tried a few games the other night but cant seem to get back into it , so I just stopped
I think im on Step 4

My first burnout was playing Everquest (1999). Level 30 was a hell level (and every 5 levels after that) when exp. would literally trickle. I spent 14 hours straight getting through level 30 and when I hit 31 I didn't touch the game for weeks thereafter. I was just so gatvol of EQ and every other game I had in my collection.

Now with work, I get my sabbatical every second month when I am up north in West Africa (I'll mess around but no serious gaming)

Suffering from burnout right now. To the point where I'm considering powering up the Wii so I can get back to Twilight Princess again.

Yes, I play a game for almost a whole day, and then realise I had things I needed to do that day, which I completely neglected to do.

It's easy to solve the problem. Get some balance in your life. Do not spend all your free time gaming and just take a break from it. I reckon that works best.

I remember having a major burnout when I still played WoW. Think it was just after Burning Crusade was released. I was, "what's the point of logging on anymore"

Eventually I quit for 6 months, didn't play anything else. Started again when Wrath of the Lich King came out... stopped when Cataclysm came out and never been back!

Best decision ever was to quit WoW.

But yes, now and again I do get Burnouts, and I switch to series/movies. Doesn't last longer than a few days.

been through too many phases of gamer burnout, usually i find playing online games lasts longer than with single player games. When i have no internet i usually dont play games and watch anime/series as i cant stay in a single player game for longer than a couple hours and then im so bored from playing against a computer.

All the time. Especially if I play WoW, that's why I only play 1 month at a time. But most of my other games as well - burning out a lot quicker the older I get.

Do any of you believe Online gaming was the cause of most of you gaming burnout?

1) I used to play alot of PC gaming first... offline.loved it. No burnout EVER.
2) I Moved on to xbox. Played all the single player games. Loved it. No burnout EVER.
3) Got internet. Tried multiplayer online. Got HOOKED. ADDICTED. Played all the time. Was a n00b. Got PWN'd. Wanted to get better.Played regardless of mood in order to get better. Became Better. Started PWN'ing. Started owning. And then... Connection issues. Lag. Sponging. Anger. Rage. "How can it be my fault i'm NEVER this bad!" Started to hate SA internet. Hate the game (but still played it). Cue BURNOUT. Move on to offline single player game... but... no competition... AI too predictable... Too slow paced... NOOOOOOO.................. *forever Alone*

I blame Online gaming because... The reasons I played games changed. We (or just me) lost that... will to play just for the pleasure of gaming, and started focusing too much on playing to dominate. I noticed this and tried to remember why i liked gaming. It helps to take a breather and play single player 'story' based games.

Also i blame the amount of game recycling. We're not introduced to as much variation in gaming as we used to. The gamers coming from 8bit days through to this generation of gaming must understand.

But i speak entirely for myself. I dont know about you guys....

Are you a wizard? My story is much the same, except I just stuck to PC gaming.
