Does anyone remember that gaming = fun?

I definitely suck (big time) at StarCraft 2, yet I still definitely had plenty of fun playing online. I can imagine that if you take it too seriously that you'd eventually resort to such measures as blaming the game for not being fun or fair or just plain sucky, instead of blaming yourself for being he who sucketh much and didn't learn to have fun.

We are a result of ourself and the gaming corporation. Would be nice for example to just talk about a game where the talk excludes gender, sexual phobia, religious and platform.

Where gaming becomes just gaming that can be enjoyed by all without need for peen or discrimination.

I play games because they are fun and that's it! I wouldn't have bought a new PC if I didn't enjoy playing games. There's nothing more fun than playing games online with friends, but I might even think that no game is more fun than the Witcher 2! :D

I think you might be taking things a bit too seriously...I lost interest in the Sony thing weeks ago. I don't even read the articles anymore. And all this drama you speak of- it's what you make of it. Just don't get involved. That's all :) Play your games and have fun! Business as usual.
 
Gaming is still fun - its all in the mindset. NB: Don't neglect your responsibilities and loved ones or become obsessive. Eat well and take breaks between plays. Make time to go outdoors and visit/ hang out with friends and family. I really try to avoid the fanboy banter and look for unbiased opinions and decide whats best for me when buying a console or game.
 
I play to have fun. If I don't have fun I stop playing. That's why most of the games I used to play is lying there... unplayed. Once every few months I play... I have fun...then some douchebag comes a long and ruins it with stuff like "work" and "paying for electricity"... and so the cycle continues.
 
I think you're kind of simplifying an evolving trend.

A long time ago, games were pretty simplistic. In the days of Space Quest and Doom, games were basically just games, you played them for fun and spoke to your friends about them, but they were all either silly/crazy difficult/mindless.

Gaming, however, has matured in the last 10 years. People compete for 1000s and 1000s of dollars. There are gaming communities, gaming cultures, a not-insignificant number of people make their living from gaming in one way or another. Billion dollar industries have been built on gaming.

Gaming is still supposed to be "fun", sure, but so is sport. The main goal of sport is fun, but you're not in here complaining about people screaming in bars and getting into fights and your Dad leaping off the couch, fist-pumping the air when the Stormers/Sharks/Man Utd win a match.

Gaming has just matured, its become something bigger than what it once was, its graduated to a new level where people are passionate about it, invest an enormous amount of time in it, and are competitive in it. Hell yes a competitive Starcraft player is going to get pissed if he loses, the same way a Tennis/Rugby/Cricket player may be a sore loser after a hard-fought match. When you introduce passion, money, competition and a certain amount of prestige to anything, its going to come with everything else attached.

Gaming has entered a new era, and you don't really have a right to complain about it. Sure, on one side of the coin are the trolls, whiners, hackers etc., but on the other side are evolving technologies, amazing games and a huge competitive player pool.
 
Yes gaming has evolved I get it, but what my point was, and maybe it didnt come across right, that our conversastions about gaming has become so serious. How often do we talk about the content of the game itself, its far less than we talk about gaming companies, developers, publishers, lawsuits, prices etc. Im just saying it gets tiring focussing more on the business side of gaming, rather than the games themselves. It is interesting dont get me wrong, and it is relevant I know, I think there needs to be a better balance. Asking for help with game on this forum often gets you a reply ''go to -link- website, no need to ask us''. The pleasure of sharing experiences in the game is not so prevalent anymore.

Anyways, when one looks back at how things were in the past, lets say games/gaming, and compare it to the current(now-a-days/today) one can call it nostalgia. It's a longing for something that once was, and now isn't. Its called the human resistance to change. Though we are the drive of that change. Think of it this way: A kid reaching an age where he/she discovers gaming, can be any platform, any game. They play the game through and through and can tell you of any exploit/glitch/gameplay issue as a result. Later on in life, when they think back, they will remember this as their first game/games and these memories will be fondly treasured.

My point: It's life. Tough it out,learn to love it, or hate it. We make the choices, and those choices only seem apparent later on when we look back. Enjoy your day :)
 
Its an industry bigger than hollywood so people take it seriously I guess. At the end of the day its just nerds having a relax.

Oh! Yeah I heard that Dragon Age 2 isn't as good as the first one and that's very disappointing. Luckily they are learning from their mistakes and making the third one better. The PSN hacking sucks though.

Imagine killing real people. Now that would be tiring! It's already bad enough coming home in the evening and trying to find the energy to play games. But man to then go out and kill real people... in the cold! Do you know how cold it is outside? Oh man and then you got to find people to kill and get into trouble and I feel like climbing into bed already.

I'm just toying with you. I don't really understand your post but yay for trying! :D This is a gaming forum. We have fun and have disagreements and have a good time. I spend more time reading and posting on forums than actually playing games.

Forums like these are like games. I like it.
