Don't buy Dead Rising 2 for the PC

Or you are one of the main characters in an episode of the Twilight Zone.

Seriously, you were able to turn your Alpha Protocol character around with one mouse movement?

should seriously look into the possibility that Risker's ocular system might be broken. Dead Rising 2's control scheme on PC works just fine. To say it reminds one of Alpha Protocol is extravagant exaggeration. Mouse control in AP is broken, absolutely, it makes the game unplayable, but in DR2 it works perfectly; Risker's mouse might be broken

I don't know how long you have been playing pc but If the game does not even have an option to allow you to change your keys then that says to me that they did a bad job.

I don't use that key configuration and not everybody does either.

Sometimes the key configuration they leave with is so bad it is like playing twister with your fingers.

Also when I said fundamentally broken THE OPTION TO USE A CONTROLLER DOES NOT WORK!!!!!

THAT IS WHY I WROTE FUNDAMENTALLY BROKEN

They are working on patch for it. To think they couldn't have sorted it out before the launch

READ EVERYTHING I WROTE BEFORE COMMENTING!!!!

One last thing, I didn't say it was a bad game, actually I enjoy playing it for about 30 minutes, they just messed up the control system, 1 no option to change and 2 360 controller doesn't work (On dead rising forum quite a number of people already mentioned this) so I put this thread out as warning so that people have the whole story

Nonsense. I play the game with my XBOX 360 controller so i dont know what your pc is smoking.

Then my wireless controller is the only one on earth that works. Jeez i always wanted something no one else has.

Well I can't comment on why people say that it does not work. I will be playing with the keyboard and mouse combo.

Whoa there tiger, settle down, your chill pills are somewhere nearby I'm sure.

I've been playing PC games long enough to know that not all of them will work perfectly out of the box. I'm sure you got so shockingly angry when your controller didn't work that you decided to post a "Don't buy the game" thread to vent some of the rage (hope it served its purpose). However, if this thread was supposed to be a warning only, then you shouldn't have called it Don't buy DR2.

Could it be that, out of anger caused by other games, you threw your controller against the wall one too many times before trying Dead Rising 2? Frequent trauma to a controller will cause it to stop working.

Sigh.

How do you fix the sound problem Juice? It's way too soft..

My problem wasn't that it was too soft; the game didn't start at all. Google told me to go to my speakers' properties, click on the advanced tab and set the sample rate to 16bit, 48000 Hz.

Ok, so I've been jamming some of this game for a bit and I must say- it's very cool. Lots of fun killing zombies in so many different ways and everything you see can be used as a weapon which is pretty cool. I like the story as well.

The only things that have irritated me a bit so far is the sound issue I have been having. I managed to sort that out by updating my sound drivers and setting the default format to 24bit 48000 or something in that line. There is one other issue however. The game keeps crashing... About every half an hour or so. I had to do the same part over and over because I never get to save while I'm busy doing the missions. I'm not sure what makes the game crash, but it just suddenly stops with an error "Dead Rising 2 has stopped responding".

I'm going to update my drivers to ATI catalyst 10.9 when I get home and see if that solves the issue.. I really hope it's that because this game rocks and I'd really like to finish it once or twice, but currently it's a bit of a hassle. Hopefully they will release some sort of update soon..

PS. the game stopped responding after a minute or two if you're sound format is set to anything more than 48000 Hz, whether it is 16 or 24 bit.

Ok so I saw in the beginning that if you use the Xbox controller, the game doesn't register it... Has anyone tried the PS3 Controller for the PC game?? Because I have one of those Chillstream controllers for PS3 and ja I use it quite often on my PC for my Racing Sims...

For everybody whose Wireless 360 Contoller does not work here is another work around that worked for me.

I found it on the Dead Rising 2 forum
http://www.capcom-europe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65842&page=2

Download the Xbox360CE v2.0.2.62. http://x360ce.googlecode.com/files/x...p-2.0.2.62.zip
Run x360ce.exe.
Click yes to create x360ce.ini.
Load preset Controller (Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows).
Open advanced tab of controller and disable native mode.
Uncheck force feedback.
Click options.
Set FakeWMI to be EnabledUSB.
Set Fake DI to be EnabledCalback.
Check of Fake WIN Trust.
Leave the rest.
Check if your buttons/axes are mapped properly.
Save changes.

Now copy the files to your Dead Rising2 folder

The files that are mentioned i put into the main directory of the game as well as the controller directory

The controller directory is
Dead Rising 2\Data\Controls

Then run the game and under pc settings activate the controller

That is what work for me

what operating system and what motherboard you running?

Dead Rising 2 and other games did the same thing for me and I had to lower my Ram Hrtz in Bios to fix the problem

I have:
Windows 7 64-bit Premium
Radeon HD 5850
Intel DP45SG
4 Gb ram was at 1333 Mhz now 1066 Mhz

That's the error it produces when the bit rate is set to anything above 16. I see you set yours to 24? Try setting it to and keeping it at 16 bit.

If you're running Win7, also try running the exe in administrator mode: right click on game exe, properties, compatibility tab, then tick 'Run this program as an administrator'. At the very least, it will make you feel just a little bit more important.

PS. Glad you like the game.

Update

The updated version of Xbox360CE can also run other controllers and can be found here
http://code.google.com/p/x360ce/downloads/list

You need to run the programme and in the option menu under compatability run it in fake mode.

The programme will produce files which you should put into the dead Rising2\Data\Controller directory

If for some reason the programme spits out a error message becuase it can't find a file (For me it was a .dll file), just google that file and then place it into the main game directory, which is what I had to do to get it to work.

So now you have option on what kind of controller you would like to use

I tried all that before with no luck, BUT, I seemed to have fixed it now.

What I did was to uninstall the Games for Windows LIVE that came with the game. I downloaded the GFWL client from the website and installed it manually. No errors and I've been playing for a few hours!

Now I can finally enjoy the game. And damn! There's so much content in terms or replayability..Looks like I'll have to play through this one a couple of times to do all the missions!

There is a review old yatzee(soz spelling lol)did and he actually liked the game. Well for what it was meant for killing zombies:D

So I have been playing it and for the first hour a was meh. Then I started to combine things and find creative was to dispatch zombies and it was like hell yeah:D

The bastard sword is awesome and the guitar and amp combo is fun. Love the stick of dynamite and hand combo:D
