I am inclined to agree with you. Doom much like Duke Nukem and Quake where good back in the day but failed to evolve with the industry. It why, IMO, Rage failed so badly, it clung to the old way instead of adapting to the new.

Evolution: sandbox, outside... RADICAL :eek:

I can't say I'm pinning my hopes high for doom IV quake V at all. If BFG supports modding then I'd get it. There are a few nice doom3 mods, hec could even give it a little facelift with sikk mod :p
 
I actually intend to start playing DOOM 3 from over.. If I can find that disc it's stored on.
Going to mod the crap out of that game, then play it.

I enjoyed playing RAGE for what it was/is worth, but, it's repetition got to me.
Leads you to believe it's an open-world style gameplay, but it actually isn't all that open-world.
The thing that really upset me was... I played the game, enjoyed it, and expected an epic ending... Or at least something close to that.

I came to the end and was like ... :eek::confused::wtf:

And that final cutscene... ... ...

I still have the multiple CD's lying around somewhere of Doom 3, haven't played it in years. I tried Quake IV on the Xbox I am so glad it was a second hand game for R100.
 
Hehehe, they are making sure that bfg is the only option. Also of note... ID super pak is MIA which did include original versions.


Original Doom 3 can't be bought on Steam anymore, hurting mod community


Just the other day I'd written up an article about the wonderful Dark Mod project, which requires the original Doom 3 to play. If you thought to yourself, "Gee, Sean, that sounds mighty swell; I think I'll go pick up a copy of Doom 3 on Steam and give it a try!", well, you can't do that anymore, at least not yet.

You see, Timmy, publisher id Software has restricted the game from sale on Steam, though its store page still exists. Naturally, this is in light of the recent launch of Doom 3 BFG Edition aka Doom 3 Superior Edition. It's understandable id wants to direct people towards its definitive version of the game, but if it's at the expense of the mod community, surely something must be done.

Responding to the matter, id says they're "looking into options", which I'm taking to mean they're debating whether or not it's worth it to confuse semi-casual gamers to bring joy back to modders. Time will tell.
