Doom screenshots demonstrate the terrifying power of the id Tech 6 Engine

Those screenshots are tiny, they look like 480p. Hard to tell how impressive the tech is with that.

I really hope this is going to be good. It looks promising so far. Doom 3 was a massive disappointment to me,

Yeah, I'm already getting a feeling of the atmosphere and setting of this game. Brings back so much nostalgia, unlike Doom3 which was just a fail.

Exactly what i was thinking (well not the fail part on Doom 3, i enjoyed it, be it not as much as 1 and 2). But this really looks much more how imagined a modern doom looking. I'm just hoping it gets the feel of doom 1 and 2.

With the engine almost 5 years in development and statements like "...nearly infinite amounts of geometric detail in the world..." "...will be designed for hardware that doesn't exist right now..." "...we can do things that no one’s ever seen in games before..." I'm quite excited to see what titles using iD Tech 6 will look like once in full swing.

I enjoyed Doom 3, loved the dark atmosphere. So either way, if its more like the original or darker like 3, its fine with me.

I wonder what kind of special ed they will release for it.

Don't think we will see as many other games on the ID Tech engine as we did in the past.

Even with iD Tech 5 we only saw Rage, Wolfenstein New Order & Old Blood, The Evil Within
Doom 3 was iD Tech 4 (also Quake 4, Prey, Wolfenstein and Brink)

it's not a very popular engine. Hell, even the Source engine is more popular than iD Tech 3 + 4 combined (based on number of titles excluding engine forks)

It's not that it isn't popular, more that Zenimax aren't allowing external companies the use of the engine. From what I can tell, currently it's only Dishonored 2 which is using a modified id Tech 6 engine. I assume the next wolfenstein will also use it.

Not quite right, the licence costs are ridiculous and if you want to produce a title with iD Tech 5 or 6 "it needs to be published by Bethesda" as per id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead

Which excludes any company that's not under the Zenimax umbrella. Bethesda doesn't really publish games for companies outside of Zenimax. I can't think of any, even ones that aren't owned by Zenimax, its been for franchises owned by companies under their umbrella.

Saying we will allow people to use the engine but setting rules that no one will agree too, amounts to much the same as we not allowing anyone outside our company to use the engine, in my opinion.
