Do's and Dont's around your computer

So we all have habits around our precious technological children, but what are things that you refuse to bring near or do near them? and what is allowed? We all have limits, what are yours?

I will not allow people with wet hands or sticky hands to touch my Laptop... also if someone is sick i ask for them to wipe their hands before using it... I generally don't let people use my Laptop

I don't like liquids around my case, sort of true.
Others are allowed to use my PC, but I am conflicted about it, tbh - except when it comes to family.

My case is place in such as way that you can't accidentally kick it. I'm not happy with its place as I feel it's not get decent air flow.

No open liquid containers, at least on the side of the table underneath which my computer sits (I have a energetic 5 year old and I am very clumsy) and also nothing that makes crumbs or is oily. I dislike eating chips/crisps and never take them to a LAN. It just makes the keys and mouse oily.

I once spilled a glass of water on my open computer case, but because I am paranoid about electricity, it was not plugged it. So I just left it for 2 or so days and it worked. The CPU fan packed up a few months later, not sure whether that was just normal or due to the water.

Owning a laptop is terrifying because im always scared of spillage, i drink tea often but i keep behind my laptop, about an arms length away from me

I'm very fussy around my computer at home. Nobody touches it except me.

My laptop for work I have no rules, it's still company policy and it's a worthless pathetic excuse for a laptop. It's already second hand and I know it's going to see more action after I leave. I clean it every now and then then but I have very little attachment to the thing.

I have all black keycaps, so people generally don't want to use my PC anyways :) Can't say I have a lot of don'ts otherwise...

Awkward moments arise when eating something oily with both hands and have to pause a YouTube video using the mouse.
SPlayer is easy; just tap [SPACE] and Bob's your metaphorical uncle.
YouTube video; awkwardly position your wrist and pinky finger...

I have one simple rule "If you're not logged in as yourself don't use the computer", my wife likes putting crap on the desktop and I'v locked her down to a standard user. My boy (even though he cannot read, write or use any of the peripherals yet) has an account, with loads of restrictions. Wife and kid both run though a proxy server with content filtering enabled for the kid. They also cannot change/switch off their proxy.

Apart from that...if your hands are sticky, oily or wet don't use the peripherals.

around my desktop i eat and drink, the macish keyboard i use has a spillproof silicone cover over it.

my laptop is not the newest around but its still very nice imo so no beverages are allowed around it.

You can pause and play youtube vids with the spacebar too actually :) figured it out by accident a while ago.

I have no restrictions around my pc. Think Im too lax maybe. Oh well its insured so whatevs :D

Fortunately nobody else really uses my pc but me. i move my keyboard away if im eating something while i watch a comedy show or series, otherwise not really phased. I'm not a pig so my mouse/kb are never really dirty...but i must say my mousepad is getting a bit faded :/

You can, but, by default pressing space will scroll down the page.
I've found that I can only do that if I actually click the (pause/play) button.

The flash video needs to have focus, as opposed to the whole window. so clicking anywhere in the video should allow the use of the space bar.

Clean Hands is probably the biggest DO on my rule list.
Secondly, DON'T adjust my settings on the computer, in game, visual effects, my seat height, my screen, mouse pad or keyboard position. I am very specific about the way I play games, especially FPS games
