DOTA 2: Petition to stop Russians playing on our servers!

I'm sorry but this is stupid and massively hypocritical. How would you feel if all the Europeans started a petition to ban SA players from their servers and game companies actually listened?

By Europeans, do you mean the Russians? I play EU West, US East and West, or SA, where the language is English. I don't log onto a Russian, South American or SE Asian server, spam Afrikaans and play like shit, thereby ruining the experience for the four other players on my team - do you know why? Because I can't speak any of their languages, making it impossible to communicate with my team mates. It's simple: don't speak English? Don't pick a server where the majority of the players use that language to communicate.

I would be fine with that

From every online game ever, including all the ones that don't have servers in SA?

The difference is they have their own server so its 2 completely different scenarios if they didnt have their own server sure use ours but they have their own !!!!

Agreed, its a stupid petition and your just burning bridges for all SA players

Nah, won't work. I'll sign for the cause cos I agree it's damn annoying but I love Euro servers. hopefully this doesn't cause a massive backlash.

I think it's better to add like a no-xp or no item clause to playing on foreign servers.

Thats actually really not a bad idea

I find there are more South American players on the SA server (presumably because they cant see the difference between South America and South Africa) than Russians lately. The South Americans aren't too bad but 400+ ping hinders them quite a bit.

Yeah also noticed the influx of south american players but I think little fishes idea is a good ine take away items and exp gain when not playing on your own server its not a solution but hopefully a deterrent

I don't know if the wording of the petition has changed since yesterday, but I read it now and I actually agree with him. It's not xenophobic or anything at all. From what I understand he just wants Valve to give players the option to only get into games with other players from their region, not ban other nationalities from playing on SA servers. I don't play Dota myself (mostly because of the whole team game thing), but I can understand the frustration of not being able to communicate with your team members.

I'm trying to go out my way to try and play on as many servers as I can at least once just to see what it's like ( different styles of play and whatnot) but the pings are just too bad. EU West are the most fun and I get a 250 ping which, while not ideal is still playable. South American ones are slow as hell and I'm not even going to try Australia. The Brazilians did get sort of pissed at me cos of my lag though.

The issue is that in general Russian players do tend to be of the griefing/feeding type. Of all the games I've ever played I have only come across 1 or 2 Russian players that didn't make me want to put my keyboard through the wall. Perhaps banning them outright is a bit of an extreme measure but it genuinely is an issue. Being a team game, you are only as strong as your weakest link, and if your weakest link can even SPEAK to you? then we have a problem

THey should just change the name of our Region to Africa instead of South Africa. That should keep a percentage of the illiterate South American people off the servers.

The wording was changed, yes, and rightly - the original was a bit harsh.
