Dota 2

That also irritates me about HoN. The cheesy KILL SPREE sounds. Hope Valve has done the same too much.

What's amazing to note is that recently I've discovered that the younger folk who play Dota believe that those announcer sounds originated in Dota, which I first laughed at and then sunk into a pit of depression upon realising just what kind of influence Dota has on the world's youth (who play it).

Melodrama aside, I do enjoy the announcer sounds and I'm glad they kept it as is, I really am.

Lol it is agonizing. I'm still pretty young myself (since 20 is pretty young) but even I'm amazed that people never realised that those sounds originated from the UT games .-. They probably discovered Dota before anything else but still >.>

But I can't wait to hear the announcer sounds once more (abandoned Dota a while ago), but I'll have to seriously brush up on my tactics before I'll be the one triggering those announcements again and again :-P

Unless you go on a feeding streak so someone else earns those announcements. xD

It was definitely one of the alluring traits that Dota had for me, the competitive rewarding style that it was implemented in. Every time I hear "Godlike!" I jizz a little.

Lol will probs be the situation :-P I like being bait XD And that is what made Dota pretty epic :p Kinda like throwing a dog a bone after ravaging a couple of people ^_^

Dota2 looks really great but I hope they include a few original heroes. Kinda what I like about HoN is that there are quite a few unique heroes (altho they are inspired by original Dota heroes). Just makes it a little more fresh.

As far as I know all of them are original heroes.

All of the heroes used in the tournament are original heroes from DotA. The heroes will obviously look different and here and there a name will be changed because of copyright, due to the volatility of the DotA community they will probably stick to the original heroes for some time and then systematically release a few new heroes, if they add new heroes at all.

Here is a link with all the confirmed heroes. :)

Thanks. Yah I saw that list. That's why I was a little disappointed. I think churning out a better visualised clone of the original is not really the way to go. Sure it's going to attract your die hard, hardcore dota players...but some new heroes might also attract the interest of those that have gotten over DOTA (like me). But obviously they will add new unique heroes later. That's probably when I will start getting into it. Until then...HoN for me

The mechanics of the game have been improved as well, the Warcraft III engine limited the game in so many ways. We will see a few things added that could not be done in DotA. :)

Looking through some of the newer screenshots, they've made some quite big improvements regarding spells. Dazzle's spells are quite dazzling...Zeus's ulti looks pretty epic!

A word from Icefrog :
We aren't planning to have one big beta invite tomorrow. Right now the beta primarily consists of the tournament teams, Dota1 beta testers, and other players that might compete in upcoming events. We will gradually give access to more and more players over the coming weeks and months. The Dota2 development process, like with Dota1, is focused on getting incremental player feedback to help us prioritize features and functionality in the game. There won't be an immediate million person invite all at once, but rather a gradual buildup as we develop new features and test various aspects of the game in order to to make it an enjoyable experience for an expanding player base.
Got my hopes up for nothing it may be weeks before the public gets a chance to play the beta.

I think that it's for the best. The first few weeks will most likely be riddled with bugs and/or imbalances, which will ruin the gameplay experience. A faulty beta will change your expectations of the final release, so if they need time to perfect it first, then that's okay with me. :D

I'm signed up for the Beta, but I've decided that it's actually fine if I don't get to play it at all until the full product has been released. I just wanted to see some video footage of the game in action, and I've seen a LOT of it now. I'm happy with what I saw - so now I'm just going to sit and relax and wait for the full game :) Besides, BF3 is coming out next month and Dota2 won't be in my mind at all then hehe.

You, sir, are dead to me. Just joking, yep a lot of great games coming out this year. Hopefully Dota 2 will take its place amongst them.

Really hope it does have LAN capabilities. Else I think my buddies and I will just stick to Dota 1 :p

I am sure it will, the real problem starts with Steam's Offline Mode... having so many problems with that lately. I am pretty sure they played through steam or a third-party program at Gamescon because in a game that I watched the players complained about lag.
