DOTA by Valve - official reveal imminent

Who cares. I want them to start the freaking third instalment of half-life.

exactly. It is like Valve don't feel like getting half-life 3 done. It is sitting in the corner gathering dust.:(
 
Perhaps Half-Life 3 warrants an entirely new 3D engine. Who knows what they are working on behind closed doors.

Thats why people are calling it Half Life 3, they can't be taking so long just to release another episode...
 
OK, so where does DOTA fit in these days anyway? Between Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends, is there really a place for DOTA in its original form i.e. using the War3 engine?

I would be very surprised if Valve is merely just planning to distribute DOTA via their Steam network. Wouldn't this also have massive legal implications since Blizzard owns War3? would they then just be distributing the map? sounds sketchy...

I think we should be anticipating either a remake or something in the "DOTA" universe but not necessarily the same genre.

Have you read the article boet? Lol :p Valve is literally remaking it. They hired IceFrog and bought the DOTA trademark. It's going to be a whole new DOTA game, much like HoN. Only better, because it's Valve :D

Valve has built up my trust over the years, so I'm expecting nothing less than a whole new Half Life game. If it's going to be another episode of 2 hours I'm going to be seriously pissed, but I don't think they'll screw us around like that. Valve had been nothing but awesome in the last couple of years. :)

haha, I did indeed read it but I misunderstood the bit about "optimistically thinking people believe it will be distributed free". In my head this simply translated to redistributing. I actually didn't realise they were remaking it....

But my question still stands. Isnt HoN simply a remake of DOTA? I mean I played it while it was in BETA and most of the characters were the same, with identical gameplay and maps. So is this simply another remake? I almost can't believe it as I don't really see a place in the market for it. ALthough, there are like 1 Billion generic FPS shooter CODlike games out there...so why not?
 
I think if they manage to remake DOTA properly and just basically up-the-graphics to Diablo 3 levels it's going to be flippen fantastic. The groundwork is all there for them, all they need to do is give it a gobsmacking graphics overhaul and they're set. Maybe even throw in some physx :D
