dragon age 2 - worth it?

hey guys

i'm a huge fan of the classic rpg, played all the bioware games, baldurs gate, nwn etc.

i was hugely eager for dragon age, but when i got it i found that i just didn't have the addiction level to get past lvl 8 or so... the story was interesting but just 'too much' if there's such a thing in a story line. i never got anywhere near finished with it, and i must also comment that i found the game incredibly difficult (and i'm too proud to lower the game difficulty setting :P)

is dragon age 2 worth getting? or is it like nwn2 was - different story same engine and nothing new. i don't want to blow a few hundred bucks on this if its not worth doing, but i have an itch that needs scratching (in a gaming sense you sickos) :P

i really, really, reaaaaaaallllllly need an rpg to get fixated on!!!

Did you play DA:Origins with the patches? Yes it was overly difficult, so install the patches if you havnt. It will fix the difficulty problem. Also, I havn't returned to finishing dao since i got over it(same reasons as you), but I went and bought da2. I'm enjoying it, for the story(did you read my post where i intro'd myself? Im a story whore, then a graphics whore, then a gameplay whore. ). All I can say is, if you played games like fallout3, the witcher, hellgate london, oblivion, and enjoyed the afformentioned or at least one, then give Dragon Age 2 a go.

Despite all the negative feedback on DA2 it is a decent action game. It all depends if you like to play action (hack 'n slash) RPG's or the more strategic RPG games like Dragon Age : Origins. There is however beter action games out there. The Witcher 2 for example will be more worth your money.

Yes! I didn't really enjoy DAO and found Dragon Age 2 better. Although I did find DA 2 a bit monotonous I did get into it for the first 10 hours. 9 and a half more then DAO

Haha you guys should have went and read the official DA2 thread. Most people that did not like the first DA loved the 2de one.
Da2 is money well worth spend. But if you don't want it right now just wait a few months it will soon hit the classic bin.
The rpg your discribing is dying out, better get with the times.

Interesting how the game that is with the times (da2) isn't managing even close to the sales that the old school dao did... Dao was also competing with modern warfare 2....

On to the topic da2 is ok as a game but as a sequel to dao its poor. BW/EA neglected their core market and they paying for it through the sales and feedback.

I'd love to play Witcher but the adult theme is something I detest in games. I see absolutely no purpose in it. (Not intending to start a war here, just stating why I haven't tried it yet.) Needless to say I was a bit surprised even in DAO, although that was still bearable. Thanks for the advice though guys!

Is an "adult" theme really that much of a surprise in a game that is meant for adults? I cannot comment on the versimilitude of the
"adult" components of a game in relation to Real Life-or what one might expect from a character such as Geralt [or any other fantasy character]

Did you have to use MW2 with D2 in the same reply ? that really makes me
sick.gif

i'm still holding on to a slight bit of hope that ME 3 won't walk that path and that DA3 will be better.

deluded optimist and very unjaded gamer here

Same here, but hearing them saying "massmarket" in same sentence as me3 made me go :(. Can't see how DA3 can be any worse than DA2.

Amen!
I hate when the words "mass market" enter the fray... really just screws up everything that could have been good about the game.

A bit off the topic, but I wonder how the gameplay of DA3 will be. Will the developers go back to the playstyle of DA:O, or will they continue with the playstyle of DA2?
