Dragon Age 2

The more I hear , the more upsetting this is. They are essentially turned old school style dragon age into dragon effect.

More on the main character.

1. Hawke will be a voiced character.
Unlike Dragon Age: Origins, the player's character in Dragon Age II will be fully voiced. This opens the door for a more cinematic approach to dialogue and creates an identity for the character outside of the text you see on-screen. It also eliminates those awkward scenarios where you feel like your character should be reacting, but instead just stares blankly without so much as a grunt.

2. Hawke is human.
Yes, that means that you won't be able to select Hawke's race. However, just because that one aspect of Hawke's backstory is set doesn't mean BioWare is eliminating character creation. You can still choose your class and customize your appearance. When we visited BioWare's studio, we only saw (and heard) the male Hawke in action, but the team promises that players can select either gender for the character.

3. Hawke didn't just survive the blight...he escaped it.
As the Grey Warden from Dragon Age: Origins was fighting darkspawn, Hawke was living in Lothering. Fans will remember that the small village was raided and destroyed (an event that occurred off-screen in Origins), and Hawke was one of the survivors. However, rather than stay and fight the darkspawn menace, Hawke flees Ferelden and heads north.

4. Hawke is the Champion of Kirkwall.
Kirkwall is a major population center in the Free Marches, a collection of city-states north of Ferelden. This means that at least some of the action in Dragon Age II will be set in Kirkwall itself, though Hawke will also spend time in other areas of the Free Marches. What exactly Hawke does to earn the honorary title of Champion, however, is up to you.

5. Hawke drives the story.
Dragon Age II is not about killing an ancient evil or about quelling another blight; Hawke is the driving force behind the narrative. Over the course of the game's 10-year timeline, players' actions and choices will determine Hawke's history, relationships, and regrets...all in service to answering the larger question: Who is the Champion of Kirkwall?

strangely. i approve these changes...

my character in dragon age feels darn faceless...

I wish I could Force myself on the original and just get into it.

Sometimes I yearn for a good RPG to keep me occupied the entire weekend. But then Clan practice dives up, and strat sessions, and friendlies, and league matches, and all my friends online play only cod so they hound me on TS and my phone to come join.

Could be part of the reason that I don't RPG anymore, or I could have just grown out of it. Dunno......

I don't mind it for the story but I love my dnd rpg games and they don't make them anymore:(

mother of all fking !@#!@#$23, I only now created a character that is human. The rest where Elfs or Dwarfs.
I want Dragon age not Dragon effect. That's why Mass Effect is there 2 different experiences.

The customization is a joke I had to download 3 mods to get the customized effect I was looking for on my human character and still I did not like the look of him.

The only thing I really hate is when I create a character and have to go trough the same stuff every time where I have no control over when and where I want to be and do. Like the start of mass effect 2, Seen it so many times now its getting really boring.

(puts toys back into box)

HAHAHA!! Ever dumbing down of the genre! Come on guys/girls! All people really want is action. AmIright?
*Cough*

I hate where the industry is going...

Yeah it seems that way or just stupid games that hold your hand 90% of the time.
After playing abe oddesy I was wondering why don't they make games that hard anymore.

Consumerism. What sells more? Even putting up the difficulty does not work because it does not increase game complexity. A dumbed down game system is just that, and regardless of how hard the enemy hits me all I really want stats, items, builds, replayability and complexity. Something that can keep me entertained for ages. Sadly even DAO was dumbed down largely in my books, but not that bad.

Also Bioware need to boot their current morality system - It's is so base. They need to play a game like Arcanum to get an idea of how many choices you should be able to make dependent on your stats and skills. But perhaps it may be too expensive to make such a game these days with the rise in production costs, and the expectations related to them. So the irony is the better the games look, and the more we expect them to shine, the crappier RPG's we will get. A double-edged sword. Unless you like all your RPG's in the Action category.

I personally think the gaming industry is shit and maybe in such a poor state:(
I have not played any new game that is really hard and challenging. Old school rpgs are meant to be hard not glorified books.

I'm inclined to agree with you here. While I enjoyed ME2 more than I did DAO I believe that they both filled a specific segment of the RPG genres. "Mass Effect-y-fying" Dragon Age was not exactly what I wanted. It really looks like they are going to strip out most of what makes DAO a proper RPG. :(

how about getting the game first and trying it out before you go off the deep end?

just a thought

People make judgements based on the information presented and the info released so far clearly suggests a move to appeal to the more action based gamers as opposed to the old school rpg crowd.

Of course we all hope it turns out as a great rpg but its only right that we criticise decisions that we don't agree with. I praised dao for the approach they were taking for the original so its only fair that I criticise them for decisions I don't agree with concerning dao 2. For me its a stepback. If they prove me wrong I will admit to it but so far I don't see this gaming giving me reasons to spend nearly 500 hours on it like the original did.

I was not too impressed by Dragon age:-/ The story was great but it was not what I was looking for in a rpg.

I find temple of elemental evil allot more fun.
